FIXER FOR ROLLING BLINDS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 552,603, dated January 7, 1896.

.To all whom it may concern,.-

Be it known that l, FRIEDRICH ZAHN, ma-

chine-surveyor, a citizen of the Kingdom of Prussia, and a resident of Spandau, in the Kingdom of Prussia and German Empire, have invented certain -new and useful Improvements in Fixers for Rolling Blinds, of which the followingis a speciiication.

This invention relates primarily to an arrangement for holding and securing the cords of roller-blinds, but it may be used for other cords, ropes, bands, dac.

Referring to the annexed drawings, which will serve to illustrate a mode of performing the invention, Figure l shows a side view and section; Fig. 2, a side view, and Eig. 3 a front view, of the apparatus for holding cords or straps of rolling blinds, clothes-lines, and which can also be used for other purposes7 in which the cord or strap is automatically caught and kept in place; but the arrangement in question has, above other arrangements of that kind, the'advantage that it cannot be loosened by accidentallytouching it or by incompetent persons, as this depends on the actuation of a simply-operating mechanism.

The frame A, which by means of two wooden screws is fastened to the window-posts, dac., has two shoulders B to receive the spindle of the lever C. These spindle ends rest in grooves of B, and by means of set-screws c c the axis of the lever C can be brought nearer the face of A, just as the thickness of the cord or strap requires. The lever O, the upper end of which is broadened and has a rasp-like inner face-i. e., the side which is turned toward the cord or strap-always tends to press this rasp-like face against the strap.

Of great importance and a new feature of the arrangement in question is the boltD, which, running longitudinally through the lever C, terminates at one end in a round button, whereas it has on its upper part a notch which is continued at its lower end in the shape of an annular groove. In this groove a set-screw b is loosely tted. As represented in the drawings, the upper end of the bolt D.

is held in such a position that it is rende-red impossible to raise the lever C as the end of D is pressed against the strip F. The lever can be disengaged if the button of D is turned so that the notch a has the opposite position, whereby D slides down as far as the upper end of ci will permit it-il. e., the bolt D entirely disappears in C. This arrangement therefore represents a safety-catch which can as easily be disengaged as it is to set it in operation. a, which is slightly marked with a file, two annular grooves connected with each other by a half-thread could be employed. The bolt D could also be represented as a screw, with C as corresponding nut.

What I claim is- In a cord or strap holder, the combination of the frame having a lever hinged thereto, said lever having a safety catch which consists of a bolt passing through the center of the lever provided with recesses which engage with a pin on the lever whereby the safety catch is held in an upper position to press against the cord or strap and prevents the upward movement of the lever, or in a lower position whereby the lever and strap may be operated, substantially as set forth.
