l' Ayr,
@fm/M ZDWWMM UNITED STATES PATENT EErcEo ROSA MICHAEL, OF CHIC-AGO, ILLINOIS.
COMBINED BELT AND POCKET-BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 551,553, dated December 17, 1895.
Application filed September 13, 1895. Serial No. 562,450. (No model.)
To @ZZ when?, t may con/cervi,.-
le it known that l, RosA MICHAEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Inrprovements in a Combined Belt and Pocket- Book; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apport-aine to make and use the saine.
This invention relates to belts and particularly to a combined belt and pocket-book, and
has for its object to provide a belt having a pocket-book forming an integral part of the same and so arranged as to conceal its character; and it consists of the parts and conibinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specifica-tion, Figure l is a perspective view of my combined belt and pocket-book; Fig. 2, an enlarged detail vertical sectional view through the pocket-book, showing the same partlyT open; Fig. 3, an enlarged detail sectional View showing the fastening of the belt Fig. e, a detail perspective of the slotted end of the belt, and Fig. 5 a modified form of the hook.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout all the views.
A represents a belt which may be made of leather or other suitable material having at one end a hook a and at the other end a slot b extending across the belt for the hook to be caught in. The end of the belt may be formed with a number of slots to adapt the belt to the size of the waist of the wearer thereof, or the hook may be formed with a slot c, Fig. 5, whereby it may be adjusted along the belt to accomplish the saine purpose. At one end of the belt, preferably the hook end, a section of the material forming the belt is extended or enlarged to form the flaps d, and e, the latter being bent upwardly and connected. at each edge to the outer face of the belt by the folded material f which forms the ends of the book and to which the partitions g, which divide the book into coinpartinents, are attached as in the ordinary pocket-book, said ilap e forming with the enlarged section of the belt the body of the pocket-book and the flap CZ 'forming the exterior flap to cover or close the book and which is bent down over the iiap c and is fastened thereto by a tongue h hinged on said flap c which projects through a slotted opening i in the flap cl a-nd catches over a knob or projection 7c secured above said opening, thus forming a secure fastening for the pocketbook.
B represents an ornamental plate riveted or otherwise rigidly secured to the outer face of the flap CZ and designed to resemble a buckle.
It will be observed that a belt formed as described with a pocketbook forming an integral part thereof with a plate such as shown provides a safe receptacle for money situated in a most convenient position for access and that its character as such is hidden from the observer.
IIaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A combined belt and pocketbook, coinprising a belt formed with an enlarged section which forms the body and the exterior flap of the pocket-book, substantiallyT as described.
' 2. A combined belt and pocketbook, comprising a belt formed with an enlarged section which forms the' body and exterior flap of the pocketbook, and a fastening device for securing said iiap to said body, substantially as described.
3. A combined belt and pocket-book, ccinprising a belt having an enlarged section forming the body and the exterior flap of the pocket-book, a tongue hinged to said body portion and adapted to engage said iiap, substantially as described.
4. A combined belt and pocket-bock, coinprisin g a belt having an enlarged section forming the body and the exterior flap of the pocket-book, and an imitation buckle rigidly secured to said exterior flap, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
