Be it known that I, CHARLES G. EDENHOLM, a subject of the King of Sweden and Norway, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket-Cases, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.

My invention relates to a new and useful ticket-case and the apparatus for use in carrying out the same, and has for its object to provide a method by the use of which persons to be served in rotation, as in barber-shops 'and the like, 1n ay without con fusion be notified when their turn comes.

Vith this end in view my invention consists in certain novel apparatus and method hereinafter fully explained and then specifically designated by the claims.

To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to construct an d use the same, I will describe it in detail, refer.- ring by number to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a front elevation of the apparatus which I use in carrying out my method; Fig. 2, a vertical section taken at the line n af, and Fig. 3 is a similar view taken at the line i] Similar numbers denote like parts in the views of the drawings.

l is a back or supporting-board, to which is formed or attached receptacles 2 and 3, the former of which is provided with a ianged top at, having an opening 5, so disposed as to permit the ready withdrawal of one of a series of cards G, contained in said receptacle, through the slot T in the face thereof.

S is a sliding' false bottom, adapted to move vertically within the receptacle 2; and 9 is a coiled spring for elevatingl said bottom, so that it will be seen that the cards 6 will always be held with a spring-pressure against the top 4, and the topmost one may be withdrawn by the friction of ones finger upon its upper surface. having a depending lip l0, for the purpose presently explained, and in the face of this receptacle is a circular opening ll, of sufficient size to expose to view the designating numbers of the cards. The bottom and a portion of the front of the receptacle 3 are at an angle to the top and back thereof, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, so that cards placed within this receptacle and pressed against the face thereof will stand at a like angle, for the purpose hereinafter explained.

12 is a back board, tting within the receptacle 3, and adapted to have a sliding movement and be actuated by the spring 13, so that cards 14, placed within the receptacle, will be caused to bear against the face thereof. Then a card is to be placed in the receptacle 3, it is inserted through the slot l 5, and forced down below the edge of the lip l0, when its upper portion will spring in line with the front of the receptacle, causing its upper edge to'pass back of said lip, whereby its withdrawal is prevented.

1G is a cut-awayportion in the front of the receptacle 3, of suiiicient size to allow the finger of a person to pass therein when inserting one of the cards li within said receptacle.

The tops a and 9 of the receptacles 2 and 3, respectively, ma7 be bolted upon their respective receptacles, so as to facilitate the renewal or removal of the cards from said receptacles.

From the foregoing description the application and operation of my device will be obviously as follows: The device is placed in a prominent and convenient location in the room where customers are served, and upon the entry of each person he is required to withdraw one of the cards from the receptacle 2, and retain said card during the period that he is required to wait while others are being served, and when the designating number of the card he holds is called he is required to insert said card within the receptacle 3, when its number will be exposed to the view of not only the customers then waiting, but also to the person or persons serving said customers, so that when there is occasion to serve another customer the number next above the one exposed in the receptacle 3 will be called, and the person holding said number will be made aware that it is his turn to be served.
