JACOBDANZ, 2D, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
SCREW-CAP FOR CANS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 550,441, dated November 26, 1895.
Application filed March 22, 1895. Serial No. 542,781. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AOOB DANZ, 2d, of St. Paul, Ramsey county, Minnesota, have invented certain Improvements in Screw-Caps for Cans, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in screw-caps for sheet-metal cans, its object being to provide an attachment serving as handles therefor and also for tasting-cups by which to sample the contents of the cans.
My invention further consists in the improved construction hereinafter particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is an isometric projection of a can fitted with my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of my device, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same.
In the drawings, A represents the can provided with the screw-threaded neck 2, to which is fitted the screw-cap 3.
B is an elongated cover or hood, the sides of the hood in the center flaring outward to admit the screw-cap, which is secured therein in any suitable manner, as by means of solder or rivets. The sides or flanges of the hood thus have bearing-support against the cap and are narrowed or brought toward each other and project beyond the cap on.
each side, forming handles 4 and 5, thus constituting strong arms or levers, by means of which the cap can be easily unscrewed although tightly fitted or adhering on account of the dried contents of the can which may have oozed into the space between the cap and neck. These handles or arms, when the cap is removed and inverted, serve as cups into which portions of the contents of the can may be poured for sampling purposes.
I claim 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a screw cap for cans or similar Vessels having handles of substantially V shape with the members straddling and secured to the sides of the cap.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, a screw cap for cans and similar vessels, having a double handle of substantially elliptical or elongated diamond shape embracing and secured rigidly to the sides of the cap.
3. As an improved article of manufacture, the screw cap having an elongated hood fitted over and rigidly secured to said cap, the projecting ends serving normally as handles and also when inverted as cups.
4. As an improved article of manufacture, the screw cap for cans and similar vessels, having a sheet metal hood fitted closely over said cap and with its sides or flanges narrowed together to form oppositely projectinghandles.
5. As an improved article of manufacture, the screw cap having a sheet metal hood fitting closely over the same and rigidly secured thereto, the top of the hood being narrowed to form oppositely projecting arms, and together with the flanges secured thereto forming rigid handles for the cap, and when inverted serving as cups.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JACOB DANZ, 2D.
