JEAN FRANQOIS THEODORE PINET, OF AMMEBERG, SWEDEN.
NEED LE-TH READER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 549,014, dated October 29, 1895.
A plication filed June 5, 1895. Serial No. 551,750. (No model.) Patented in Sweden January 5, 1894, No. 5,462; in Norway November 28, 1894, No. 4,016, and in Belgium December 5, 1894, No. 113,014.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEAN FRANQOIS Tnno- DORE PINnT, a subject of the King of Belgium, residing at Ammeberg, Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Needle-Threading Devices, (for which I have obtained patents in Sweden, No. 5,462, dated January 5, 1894; in Norway, No. 4,016, dated November 28, 1894, and in Belgium, No. 113,014, dated December 5, 1894;) and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
' clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and efficient needle-threading device, and consists in the combination of certain parts arranged for operation, as hereinafter fully described.
The invention is clearly shown in the accompanying drawings, whereon Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section thereof.
The letter a designates a longitudinal section of a cylinder or casing, the rear end of which is provided witha detachable cap a and the front end with a fixed head or plate at and a guard or shield b, overlapping said head, but with space between same, as shown in the drawings.
The casing a is provided at one side with a longitudinal slot 6 for the passage of a stud j, which is connected with a sliding piece d, the latter normally held in outward position by a spiral spring 9, fitted between said sliding piece and the detachable cap a of the casing. The forward end of the sliding piece d is provided with a stem 1., the outer extremity of which is formed into a hook, as shown at 0, which in the practice of the invention operates through slots 8 8, formed in the front and rear sides of the tube 0, and in a corresponding slot in the casing-head, as shown at s. The slot 8 at the front of the tube extends the full length thereof to form an outward passage for the thread as the needle is being withdrawn from the tube.
' When not in use, the hook 0 of the sliding device rests against the inner surface of the guard or shield 19, and is thereby prevented from injury.
In the operation of my invention the apparatus is held in horizontal position, as shown in the drawings, and the sliding piece drawn backward until its hook 0 has cleared the tube 0. The needle to be threaded is next inserted with its head downward into the tube 0 until it rests on the block m, the needle meanwhile being turned until its eye shall be in line with the hook 0. The sliding piece 01 is then allowed to be pressed forward by its spring until the hook 0 has passed through the eye of the needle. The thread is next thrown over the aforesaid hook, when by means of the stud f the sliding piece is moved backward and the thread drawn through the eye of the needle. The threaded needle can then be raised clear off the tube 0, the slot 8 in the latter permitting the withdrawal of the thread without injury to the same.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv 1. The combination in a needle-threading device, of a casing provided with a spring sliding-piece carrying a hook at its forward end, a tube, arranged at right angles to the casing, said tube provided with front and rear slots, as described, and a slotted casinghead, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a nee dle threading device consisting of a casing, a sliding piece and a spring arranged within said casing, a projection with hook at the forward end of the sliding-piece, a slotted casing head, a slotted tube arranged within the casing head and at right angles with the casing, as described, and a shield projecting over the slotted-head, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
' In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JEAN FRANQOIS THEODORE IPINET.
