Description
UNITED STATES PATENT Finest BUNG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 548,625, dated October 29, 1895 Application filed March 14, 1895- Serial No. 541,719. (1% model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GOTTLIEB FRIEDRICH BOKEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Easton, in the county of Northam pton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bungs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a hung for kegs, casks, and other vessels; and it consists of an annular metallic ring, the exterior of which is provided with a screw-thread and a top flange, and the interior with a recess in which is fitted a rubber or other flexible bushing, the said bushing adapted to receive an airtight plug, and subsequently a spigot, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
My invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a vertical transverse section of the device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bushing, and Fig. 3 aperspective view of a stopper or plug adapted to fit within the bushing.
The letter a designates an annular metallic shell, the exterior of which is provided with a top flange b and threaded portion 0, and the interior with top and bottom flanges de,
leaving a recess between same, as shown at f, for the reception of a rubber or other flexible bushing h, having an internal top flange 'i, by which the plug k is securely held until displaced by the introduction of a spigot.
To insert the spigot it is only necessary to apply its tapered end against the plug and then slightly turn and press same until the plug is dislodged and the spigot firmly secured.
My invention avoids the necessity of hammering the spigot into place, and consequently prevents injury to same, as well as accomplishes result without noise.
The bushing makes the device perfectly airtight, and, being of rubber or yielding ma terial, can be easily and quickly removed whenever necessary to replace same with a new one.
When required to pitch the keg or vessel, the plug is removed from the bung and a plug of other material substituted therefor.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein described bung, consisting of a metallic shell having an annular recess therein, a flexible bushing provided with an internal top flange, and a plug adapted to fit within the bushing, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GOTTLIEB FRIEDRICH BOKEL.
