Description

(No Model.)
R. L. NELSON. PLOW STOCK.
No. 548,449. I Patented Oct. 22, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT Fricn.
PLOW-STOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 548,449, dated October 22, 1895.
Application filed May 15, 1893. Renewed July 10, 1895. Serial. No. 555,581. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ROBERT L. NELSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gabbettville, in the county of Troup and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Stocks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompany ing drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make a plow-stock with a'brace on the top of beam which drops to hold the foot in the catchplate, the foot-standard being kept by a spring up to said plate, all as hereinafter more particularly described.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view; Fig. 2, a vertical cross-section, and Fig. 3 a detail view of the T-plate.
In the drawings, A represents the plowbeam, which is straddled by the standard B, which extends above it and is provided with the front notches b on each of its bars B B. The latter are connected at the foot by a block b and at the top by a cross bolt or rivet 19 while 5 is a cross-pivot at or below the middle, on which is pivoted one end of the rear bar 0, which has at the other end two or more holes 0.
D is a plate made fast under the rear end of the beam A and provided with the ears d cl and detachable screw-bolt 62, carrying an end not d By means of the ears d, bolt d,
and nut 1 I regulate the pitch of the plow and foot. 0n the top of the beam I fasten the T- plate E, whose head e engages the notches bin the standard, the twobeing held securely together by means of the spiral spring E, which has one end fastened to the front of the beam,
while the other end issecured to the cross bolt or rivet b It will thus be seen that I can raise or lower the beam so that the plow may be made to run at any desired depth.
G represents a vertical plate, whose ears 9 g are held to the eye 8 of the T-p1ate by the screw-bolt H and nut I, while at the rear and near the top of this plate I place the looprivet .I. This plate G is used in connection with the spring when changing the set of the plow-foot as follows: Place one finger through the loop and raise it up from behind the standard. Then pull the spring to loosen the notches in catch-plate and raise or lower to another notch. Then drop the plate down behind the standard. The notch-bar will then be held to the catch-plate.
Having thus described all that is necessary to -a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is 1. The combination with the plowbeam A, of the standard B straddling, said beam and having the front notches b, the T-plate E whose head 6 engages the notches, and the front spring F which holds the standard to the plate as shown and described.
2. The combination with the plate E having the eye a, of the vertical plate G, having the ears g g, the screwbolt H, nut I and loop-rivet J as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The beam A, notched standard 13, pivoted bar 0, plate D having ears bolted to said bar, T-plate E, the spring F and the vertical plate G, all connected, constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT L. NELSON. Witnesses:
T. J. ANDREUS, PHIL LANIER.
