SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 548,259, dated October 22, 1895.
Application iled February 23,1895. Serial No. 539,445. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, THEoDoR LEHMBECK, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, and a resident of Berlin, inthe Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Penholders, of which the following is an exact specification.
This invention relates to a penholder in which the ink is produced from a piece of solid ink by dipping the pen and said piece of solid ink simultaneously into water. There is thus the employment of a special reservoir containing liquid ink entirely dispensed with, and the penholder may be used at any place where Water only is to be had. l In order to make my invention more clear, I refer to the accompanying drawing, in which I have shown a longitudinal section through my improved penholder, and in whicha is the holder proper, having at its working end the clamp b for the pen c. A short4 tube d, of small diameter, is fixed to said clamp or to any other suitable part or projection o' the shell a and contains a piece e ot' solid ink, the projecting end of which is pressed against the front portion of the pen by means of a spring or tongue f.
If vthe penholder is to be used, the pen as well as the extreme front end of the piece of solid ink need simply to be dipped into water, when a drop of the latter will be held by adhesion between the pen and the solid ink, and a slight portion of the latter will be turned into liquid ink, which may now be used for Writing.
Having thus fully described the nature of this invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is'- In a pen-holder and pen working with a piece of solid ink extending from the holder proper forward below the pen, the combination with the clamping-tube d for said piece of ink, of an elastic tongue f forming an extension of said clamping-tube, and being adapted to support the projecting portion of the said ink, for the purpose as described.
