NITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
JOHN EDLEBLUTE, OF SHEBOYGAN, WISCONSIN.
END-GATE FOR BOYS EXPRESS-WAGONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 547,774, dated October 15, 1895.
Application filed July 3, 1895. Serial No. 564,7 (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN EDLEBLUTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sheboygan, in the county of Bheboygan and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inBoys Express-Wagons; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The invention relates particularly to the bodies of boys express-wagons, the same being made like cheese-boxes, of a single piece of metal, wired or beaded on the top edge and rounded at the corners.
My special object is to provide these wagons with an end-gate, so that a boy may take it out or swing it around when he wishes to unload or to himself take a seat at the rear end of the body.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective of a boys express-wagon with my invention attached thereto; Fig. 2, a horizontal section through the joint of end-gate and body, and Fig. 3 a detail perspective view of the endgate.
In the drawings, Arepresents the end-gate and B the body of the wagon. On the vertical rear edges of the body B are formed the vertical tubes 1) b by turning said edges back on a curve until they abut against the sides b b, the said tubes being incidentally open at top and bottom. The upper edge of the end-gate A is wired like that of the body, but the wire is extended out at both ends and turned down to form the pendent pins a a, the pin at extending nearly or quite down to the bottom of its tube, while the pin a is only about one-third the length of the pin a, so as simply to form a catch which engages its tube to hold the end-gate in place. The vertical edges of the end-gate have an inside lap a over the sides of the body, so as to make a thoroughly tight joint. By lifting the gate about one-third of its height the pin 0. leaves its tube and the gate may be swung around on the pin a, or, if the boy prefers, he may lift the gate ed and set it aside. I
What I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
In a wagon body, the end-gate having the vertical pins a a, one shorter than the other, in combination with the body having the vertical tubes 12 b on its rear vertical edges as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN EDLEBLUTE. Witnesses:
JOHN ARTLEY, H. J. SOHADOWSKY.
