To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ANNABELL G. BULL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peoria, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knee-Pads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in, the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a pad purposed to be Worn over the knee in such connection and bearing with relation to the garment of the wearer that it will protect that portion of the garment which bears directly over and immediately under the knee.

My invention consists of two sections forming a knee-pad, each section having a strap extension from the top portion thereof and having the edges thereof which are designed to match cut so that the lower portions of matching edges of the sections are straight and the upper edges are curved, so that when the sections are laced together the lower portion of the pad will be straight and the upper portion will be concaved and the strap extensions will be crossed.

That my invention may be more fully understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my kneepad. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the parts separated and indicating their particular construction and forms In the drawings, A A are sectionspurposed to be cut out of leather or made of other suitable material, and of such size and proportion that when the sections are combined and secured together they will cover the knee and extend a short distance below the same.

B B are parts or extensions from the main body parts A A and may be integrally connected with said main body-pieces and may be provided with suitable buttonholes. One edge of each of the sections of the pad is designed to match or have corresponding or like shapes -that is, the edges at the lower portion of each of the body pieces are cut practically straight for about one-half of the length of the main body of the pad, which said straight edge is referred to by A and the other one half of the edges of the body-pieces are cut to form a decided curve, which curvature of edges is referred to in the drawings by A 11 refers to lines of perforations, one line of said perforations being provided in one edge of each of the respective sections, said lines of perforations bearing the same distance from the edge in each section, and'the said lines of perforations follow the lines of the edges of the sections.

O is an elastic band, the ends thereof connecting, respectively, with the lower outside edges'of the respective sections, which band is purposed to be carried around the limb of the wearer or to be slipped thereover to cause the lower portions of the pad to be held closely against the limb of the wearer. The straps B B are crossed in the manner shown in the drawings, with the outside edges of the pad up against the limb of the wearer, so as to cause the form of the pad to conform to the shape of the limb, and the upper ends of these said extensions may be buttoned to a garment above the knee or may connect with depending supports, as hose-supporters.

The application of the device is very simple and is apparent from the illustrations. To be applied it is only necessary that the pad and band 0 shall be slipped over the limb and into the proper position thereon, with the curved portion of the pad bearing directly over the kneecap and the lower portion of the pad, or with portion beginning where the straight edges of the connected parts begin bearing directly below the knee-cap a short distance and the straps B B crossed and at tached in a suitable manner to a garment of the wearer or to a suitable support. When so applied, the limb may be straight or bent to any degree without in anywise interfering with the close and smooth bearing relation of the pad upon the garment over the knee, and without in anywise interfering with or hindering the free'movement of the limb, the lacing together of the sectionsinsuring the proper yielding of the pad or of the parts thereof to accommodate any excessive bend ing of the limb. I

The pad is made to bear over the knee-cap and a little distance below it, so that when a person in a kneeling posture supports the entremity of the limb upon the toe the bearing of the knee will be upon the knee-cap, and if the foot is turned to one side it will throw the bearing at the lower edge of the knee-cap and on that portion of the limb just below the knee.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A knee pad, consisting of two sections, provided with narrow extensions therefrom provided with slots for attachment to supports, the lower half of the meeting edges of the body portions of said sections being cut straight and the upper half thereof cut with a curve, lines of perforations adjacent to the said meeting edges and a suitable cord for lacing said sections together, whereby, uniting said sections in the manner specified, the lower portion of the body thereof when applied to the wearer will be below the knee, the curved part over the knee cap and the extensions from the said sections will be caused to bear across each other and to be engaged by suitable supports, a suitable band connected with said sections and designed to bear around the limb of the wearer, all substantially as described.

2. In a knee pad, the sections A, A, provided with extensions B, B, the lower portion of the meeting edges of said sections being straight, to bear below the knee of the wearer, and the upper portion of said section's being curved, to cause the sections when laid together to have a concave form at the portion for bearing over the knee-cap and to cause the strap B, B, to cross, means for securing the said sections together to give this form and a suitable band connecting the said sections for bearing around the limb of the wearer.
