CONVERTIBLE PATROL=WAGON AND AMBULANCE.

My invention relates to a convertible patrol-wagon and ambulance; and it consists in certain features of construction and in combinations of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figures l and 2 are perspectives ot portions ot a convertible ambulance and patrolwagon embodying my invention, the central portion of the iioor of the vehicle being broken awayin Fig. 2 to reduce the size of the drawing.

Referring to the drawings, A A designate the sides of the wagon, and B the Hoor of the same. Hinged to the inner side of each side of the wagon, as at C', a suitable distance above the floorof the wagon, is a seat-section C. The seat-sections are arranged lengthwise of the wagon.

The sides of the wagon extend somewhat above the seat-sections, as at a, to form backs for the seats, said backs being preferably upholstered on theirinner side, as at a. Below the seat-sections and hinged, asV at E', to any suitable supportare two cushioned sections 13 that are arranged lengthwise ot the vehicle and are adapted, respectively, when the seatsections are in position for seating purposes to support or hold said seat-sections in such position, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1, and in solid lines, Fig. 2, sections E to adord said support being tilted upwardly in under the seat-sections, substantially as indicated.

Sections E are cushioned, so that when allowed to rest upon the door of the wagon, as shown in solid lines, Fig. 1, and in dotted lines, Fig. 2, they form a bed, as required in the use of the wagon as an ambulance, and when said cushioned sections are caused to bodily rest upon the Iioor, as just indicated, the seat-sections swing downwardly to form that portion of the inner sides of the wagon between backs a and the bed-covered floor.

Sections E in their upwardly-tilted position close the space under the seat-sections when the latter are in position for seating purposes, and said sections E are preferably positively secured in such position by any approved and well-known mechanical means that it is not considered necessary to show. It will therefore be observed that my invention consists in a combined patrol-wagon and ambulance having seats arranged lengthwise ot` the vehicle and composed of sections, as at C and E, capable ot being moved to form a seat or bed, as desired.

By the construction hereinbetore described it will be observed that the vehicle is quickly converted from a patrol-wagon to an ambulance, or vice versa.

The construction exhibited in Fig. 2 is substantially the same as that shown in Fig. l, excepting that cushioned sections or beds E are located farther from the sides ot the vehicle, and between sections E and the sides ofthe wagon are provided narrower cushioned sections I, adapted to rest upon the door of the vehicle contiguous to the sides of the vehicle and hinged to the sides of the vehicle, as at I', said sections I being tilted upwardly against the sides of the vehicle when the latter is used as a patrolwagon.

What I claim isl. A convertible patrol-wagon and ambulance having an independent seat section and an independent bed-section, the seat section being hinged to the side of the vehicle and the bed-section hinged to the door of the vehicle, said bed-section being adapted to be swung into position so as to support the seatsection at or near its free end.

2. A convertible patrol-wagon and ambulance having an independent seat-section and an independent bed-section, the seat section being hinged to the side of the vehicle in such a manner that when the vehicle is used as an ambulance it forms a cushioned sidesection, substantially as shownand described.

3. A convertible patrol-wagon and ambulance having seat-sections hinged to the side of the vehicle and bed-sections hinged to the iioor of the vehicle in such a manner that the bed-sections, when extended upon the floor of'the vehicle will meet at their edges and the seat-sections will be so adj usted as totorrn ICO cushioned side-pieces contiguous to the bedsections, substantially as set forth.

4. A convertible patrol-Wagon and ambulance having independent seat-sections and independent bed-sections hinged to the body of the vehicle, the seat-sections being supported at their free ends by the bed-sections when the vehicle is used as a patrol-Wagon and said seat-sections forming when in a dezo pendingr position sides for the bedsections,

and bed-sections being hinged, respectively, I5

to the sides and bottom of the Vehicle in such position that when the parts are adjusted to form an ambulance the bed-sections will meet at their free edges and form a bed and the seat-sections will form the sides of the bed, substantially as set forth.
