SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,547, dated Septen ber 17, 1895.

To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK MOORFIELD, of Newark, in the county of Essex, and in the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watchcase- Pendants; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of an antique watchcase-pendant; Fig. 2, a section through the die employed in practicing my invention; Fig. 3, an enlarged longitudinal section of the blank from which my pendant I5 is made; Fig. 4, a similar view of the finished pendant.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in the several figures The design of my invention is to provide improvements in the manufacture of watchcase-pendants of the design known as the antique, and to this end said invention consists in the pendant constructed substantially as and for the purpose hereinafter specigo A, just below the crown, and to Whose small ends the watch bow or ring is pivoted, it has been customary heretofore to make such enlargement a separate piece and then attach it by soldering to the pendant, which, as in the common or ordinary form was made with a cylindrical body portion. This procedure has been troublesome and expensive, on account of the work required, and has involved waste of material; but it has been chiefly obo jectionable in the manufacture of pendants from filled material, since the drilling of the hole through the part a and its enlargement at its upper end to accommodate the lower portion of the winding-crown have exposed 4 5 the base metal.
In accordance with my invention the oval enlargement a is made integral with the pend ant, which results in economy of material,
cheapness of manufacture, and in the pro duction of a pendant that is superior to the old by reason of such integrability, and in the case of those made from filled material, in
Serial No 06iQ36i (No model!) the avoidance of any exposure of the baser metal, as the exterior fine metal does not have its integrity impaireda 4 To make my pendant I employ a die that consists of the two parts B and B, having each the half of a matrix which has a configuration corresponding to the beaded portion of the pendant that adjoins the case center, and to the oval enlargement a. From the latter portion of the matrix the die-opening is enlarged outward to receive the tubular die part 0, whose inner end is beveled and projects into the oval-forming portion of the matrix and whose cylindrical opening has such diameter as to form the cylindrical part of the pendant that projects beyond the enlargement a to receive the crown. In the die thus constructed is placed a blank D, that consists of a tube with one end closed, and it is then subjected internally to hydraulic pressure by the use of apparatus, such as is shown in my Patents Nos. 47 6,058 and 506,247, and thereby caused to accurately take the conformation of the die. Preferably the die is provided at proper points with teats or projections 11 andb to in= dent the small ends of the oval enlargement to form pivoting recesses for the ends of the bow or ring.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is As a new article of manufacture, a watch case pendant having an integral, oval-shaped enlargement that extends around the cylindrical, body portion thereof and is adapted at its small ends for the attachment of the bow, and in its upper side having an annular cavity to receive the lower edge of a winding crown, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
