SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,091, dated September 10, 1895.

Beit known that I, MACE DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Robert Lee, in the county of Coke and State of Texas, have invented a new Improvement for House-Moving, to be called a House-Moving Reversible Dolly, of which the followingr is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in trucks for moving houses; and the object of the invention is to provide a device for this purpose which shall be simple in construction and of easy application under the sills of a house after the latter has been hoisted a suitable distance above its foundation.

A further object of the invention resides in the construction of a swiveled caster, which is heldin place by means of removable plates and braced by removable rods held in eyes of screw-rods, which pass through the bed-plate of the device and engage in the sleepers or sills of the building to be moved.

To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists, further, i-n the novel construction, combination, and adaptation of the parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and then specitically defined in the appended claims.

I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specication, and in which drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in whichm Figure l is a side elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the plates forming a bearing for the post ofthe caster; Fig. 4, a detail view of ascrew which is provided to hold the truck tothe sill of the building; Fig. 5, a detail view of the caster; Fig. 6, a detail view of one of the plates which holds the swivel portion of the cast-er to the truck.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the sillplate of the device, and B B are screws which are adapted to work through perforations in the plate A. and the threads of said screws to engage with the sill of the building to be moved. Each screw has at one end a perforation, and a shoulder which is designed to t against the under face of the said plate when the screws are turned into the plate and sill. The under surface of the said plate is recessed out to receive the circular swivel D', which carries the post D, which latter is recessed at d and has its lower end bifurcated, and G is a wheel journaled between the bifurcated arms F. NVhen the swivel-head D is seated in the said recess on the under surface ofthe plate, the point d', which is conicalshaped, rests in a recess of similar shape, and thelower face of said swivel-head is flush with the under surface of the plate, and E E are plates having the recesses at about their middle portions along adjacent edges, so that when the long edges are placed together the two recesses form a circular aperture, which surrounds the post D. The said plates E have apertures through which screws are passed to fasten the plates to the plate A.

The complemental plates K K are each recessed out so as to. form when held together by means of the bolts 7n a bearing for the post D in the recess d, and the braces C C are screw-threaded at their outer ends, which are adapted to be passed through the perforations of the screws B, and on which threaded portions nuts are adapted to be screwed. The other ends of the said braces or rods are perforated and designed to be held by the bolts 7c between the ends of the compleinental plates K.

The operation of the device is as follows: The house to be moved is first hoisted by jacks a suitable distance and then the plate A is secured to the under face of the sill of the building by means of the screws B, the swivel-head of the caster is seated in the recess provided therefor on the under side of the plate A and the plates E screwed to the plate A to hold the said head in place, the plates K are placed about the post D, the screw-threaded ends of the rods or braces C are passed through the perforated headset the screws B, and the perforated heads of the said rods C are bolted between the ends of the plates K, and by tightening the nuts on the rods O the braces are tightened and the device is ready for use.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In a device for moving houses, the coinbination of the plate A, a swivel head of a caster post held in a recess on the under side of the said plate, 0f the screws B having perforated heads and designed to hold said plate to a sill of a building, of the rods C screw threaded at their outer ends and adapted to be held in the perforations of the screws B, of the plates K, forming a bearing for the post D and carrying between their ends the vperforated ends of the rods O, and means for tightening said braces or rods, substantially as shown and described.

2. n a device for moving houses, the connbination of the plate A, the screws B having perforated heads and shouldered, designed to engage apertures of the said plate A, of

the post D having a swivel head D and an apexd adapted to be seated in a recess on the under surface of the said plat-e A, and its lower face to be ush with the under surface of the said plate, of the complelnental plates E, E, adapted to hold said swivel head in in place, of the plates K forming a bearing in a recess d of the post D, the caster G journaled in the bifurcated end of the said post of the rods C having its perforated ends held between the ends of the plates K, and its screw threaded ends held in the perforated ends of the screws B, and tightening nuts on the outer ends of said rods, all substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
