JEHIEL FRANKLIN WYNKOOROF MUs'oArmE, IOWA. f
DISPLAY-RAG K.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 544,713, dated August 20, 1895.
Application filed N v mb r J 1894.. Serial No. 530,467. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEHIEL FRANKLIN WYN- KOOP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muscatine, in the county of Muscatine and State of Iowa, have invented a new and use ful Art Display-Rack, of which the following is a specification.
"tion and of permitting the same to fold readily when desired.
The invention consists in the constructio and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display-rack constructed in accord ance with this invention. Fig.2 is an elevation showing the same folded. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same, the parts being shown in full lines folded and in operative position in dotted lines. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail perspective view illustrating the construction of the catch.- Fig. 5 is a detail sectional View illustrating the manner of hinging the leaf to the back;
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
1 designates a back of any suitable configuration having the straight lower edge, to which is hinged a folding leaf 2. The back .and the adjacent edge of the leaf 2, which is substantially semicircular, are provided with corresponding kerfs in which are pivoted, by screws or other suitable fastening devices, leaf-plates The leaf 2 is arranged ina horizontal position when in use and is swung downward to a vertical position when not in use, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3 of the accompanying, drawings, and it is maintained in operative position by means of a supporting link or bail 4, hinged at its lower end to the leaf and having its upper end slidingly connectedwith a keeper 5 The lowerterminals of the sides of the link 4 are provided with eyes which are engaged by the staple or similar device, whereby the link is hinged to the leaf. The link receives the keeper, which is constructed of a single piece of wire, and which has its lower end 6 secured to the back. The keeper intermediate of its ends is offset from the back to provide an intermediate space to permit the link to move longitudinally of it, and to permit the leaf to be raised and lowered, and it is provided at its top with a horizontally-disposed outward-extending loop or bond 7, adapted to receive the upper end of the link and to support the leaf in a horizontal position. The link is maintained in the loop or bend 7 by an approximately U shaped resilient tongue 8, secured at its lower end to the back and straddling the keeper and having its upper terminal curved outward and arranged in the loop 7 and engaging the link when the parts are arranged in operative position. The upper terminal of the keeper is secured to the back and is extended to the top of the back and terminates in an upward-projecting book 9, whereby the device may be conveniently suspended from a suitable fastening device.
The leaf has pivotally mounted on it a se- .receive and to hold various articles to be displayed. v
It will be apparent that the display-rack is exceedingly simple. and inexpensive in construction, that it may be conveniently used to advantage in stores and the like, and that when not in use it may be compactly folded.
Changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing anyof the advantages of this invention.
What I claim is- A display rack, comprising a back, a leaf IOO hingedly connected with the back, supporting arms mounted on the leaf, a keeper con structed of a single piece of wire and disposed having its upper end arranged in said loop,
vertically 0n the back, and ofiset therefrom whereby the link is retained in the same,
and provided atits top with an outward exsubstantially as described.
tending horizontally disposed loop, a U In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 15 5 shaped link provided at its lower end with my own I have hereto affixed my signature in eyes and hinged to the leaf and having its the presence of two witnesses.
upper end receiving the keeper and adapted,
when moved upward, to engage the loop, and JEHIEL FRANKLIN \VYNKOOP. the resilient U-shaped tongue straddling the Witnesses:
