DISPLAY-RACK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 544,216, dated August 6, 1895.

Application filed April 22, 1895- To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HENRY DROSTE, a citizen of the United State's, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists in certain improvements in that class of display-racks in which a supporting-arm, adjustable at different angles, is mounted upon a vertical post or equivalent sustaining device, the object of my invention being to so construct such a displayrack that the same will have but few parts, and hence can be cheaply manufactured and will not be liable to get out of order. This object I attain in the manner hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a displayrack constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view on the line 2 2, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section, partly in elevation, of part of the device.

Cast or otherwise integrally formed with the jaw a of the clip are projecting ears ff, within which fits snugly the hub g of the supporting-arm D of the rack, this arm being constructed in any desired manner for the support of the articles to be displayed. In the present instance the arm is provided both in its upper and lower jaws with a series of recesses t for the reception of rods, upon which the articles to be displayed or hung are mounted; but this construction of the arm formsno part of my invention, nor is the latter limited to such construction.

The hub g of the arm D is pivoted to the ears f f by means of a transverse pin m, (shown in Fig. 2,) and extending partway Serial No. 546,710. (No model.)

around the hub are teeth forming a worm-segment n, with which engages a worm 19, secured to or forming part of a shaft 19, which has at the lower end a milled head or disk 19', whereby it can be readily turned. The shaft 19' has its bearings in semicircular recesses formed in upper and lower projecting lugs s s, which extend between the ears ff at the base of the same and project above and below the worm p, as shown in Fig. 3. By this means all of the operating devices are held in position by a single pin 1%, the lugs s sconfining the worm p in position vertically and the engagement of the worm-segment n with the worm p preventing any outward movement of the shaft 19 from its bearings in said lugs. By this means the desired object is attained with the use of a minimum number of parts and the manufacture of the structure is facilitated and cheapened. This feature of my invention may be embodied in structures in which the support of the ears f f is effected by means other than the vertical post Aand clip B; but the use of the latter is preferred, because of the facility which it affords for vertical adjustment or for the swinging of the arm D around the post to any desired position.

Having thus described myinvention, Iclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination in a display rack, of the projecting arm having a hub with worm segment thereon, a supporting head formed in one piece and comprising opposite projecting ears with transverse lugs connecting the base portions of said ears at top and bottom, each of said lugs having a semicircular recess in its forward face, a transverse pin whereby the hub of the arm is pivoted to the ears, and a worm engaging with the worm segment on the hub of the arm and contained between the upper and lower projecting lugs of the supporting head, said worm being carried by a shaft adapted to the recesses in the lugs, and held in position therein by the engagement of the worm segment and worm, substantially as specified.
