14 Q Ji E.H.HUNTER. WATCH BOW FASTENER- Patented M56, 1895'.
UNITED STATES PATE T OFFICE.
ERNEST HOWARD HUNTER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE KEYSTONE WATCH CASE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
WATCH-BOW FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 544,039, datedAugust 6, 1895.
Application filed August 8, 1891,
To 0056 whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, ERNEST HOWARD HUN- TER, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in VVatch-Bow Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to watch-bow fastenings; and it consists of certain improvements which are fully set forth in the following specification and are shown in the accompanying drawings, which form a part thereof.
It is the object of my invention to accomplish the fastening of a bow to the pendant of a watchcase with the usual freedom of swinging movement in an economical, simple, and efficient manner.
In carrying out my invention I form the pendant with apertures upon diametricallyopposite sides to receive the ends of the bow. I form the bow with ahead or enlargement upon one end, leaving the other plain, so that it may be inserted through the apertures. I then insert the plain end through one of the apertures and pass the bow through this aperture until the head upon the other end is brought within this aperture upon theinside of the pendant. I then pass the plain end through the other aperture and fasten it upon the interior by upsetting or in any other convenient manner.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a watchcase pendant and bow illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same, showing the manner of inserting the bow; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bow, also illustrating'a modification therein.
Ais the pendant of the watchcase, provided upon diametrically-opposite sides with apertures a. The interior of the pendant may be recessed or countersunk about these apertures, as is'shown at c.
B is the bow, having one end provided with an enlargement or head C. The other end of thebow D is plain or without any head or enlargement, so that it may be passed through the apertures a. This plain end D is inserted through one aperture a from the inside of the pendant, and the bow is passed through the aperture, as is shown in Fig. 2, until the head or enlargement C is brought upon the inside Serial No. 402,088- (No model.)
of the aperture a. The plain end D is then passed through the other aperture a and is fastened upon the interior of the pendant by upsetting, as shown in Fig. 1. Instead of upsetting the end D to fasten it in place ascrewhead E may be employed adapted to be screwed into a threaded recess e upon the end D, as shown in Fig. 3. By having the head E detachable from the end of the bow the head may be removed, so as to release the end and permit the bow to be taken out for purposes of repairs.
While I prefer the details of construction which have been shown, I do not limit my invention to them, as it is apparent that they may be varied without departing from it.
What Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with the pendant of a watch case having apertures on its opposite sides, of a bow having one end smaller than said apertures so that it may be passed through them, and the other end provided with a head of larger diameter than one of the apertures so that it may not pass through said aperture, whereby the small end may be inserted through one aperture from the interior of the pendant and the bow turned until the head upon the other end is brought upon the interior adjacent to the aperture, and means to fasten the other or smaller end of the bow upon the interior of the pendant adjacent to the other aperture.
2. The combination with the pendant of a watch case provided upon opposite sides with apertures, of a bow having one end provided with a head of larger diameter than one aperture and the other end plain, and independentfastening devices for fastening the plain end within the interior of the pendant when it is passed through the other aperture.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a watch case how having one end only provided with an integral head or enlargement and the other end plain.
4. In a watch bow fastener the combination of a pendant provided upon opposite sides with apertures, and projecting into the interior of the pendant, a bow having its ends journaled in said apertures and having one end formed with a head or enlargement fixed to the body of the bow and located upon the interior of the pendant, and an independent fastening device separate from the other end of the bow and adapted for attachment thereto on the interior of the pendant.
5. As a new article of manufacture a watch case how having one end, provided with a head or enlargement integral with the metal of the bow and the other end plain and provided with a detachable head.
0. The combination of the pendant A having the apertures a on diametrically opposite sides with the internal recesses a surrounding
