SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 544,016, dated August 6, 1895.

Be it known that I, DWIGHT F. WALKER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Phil adelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Attach ments for Paper-Holding Stands, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to attachments for paper-holdin g stands.

The object is to produce a device by which paper from a roll may be stamped and cut into suitable lengths and the outer end of the web held separated from the roll ina manner to be readily and conveniently grasped.

With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features and combinations and arrangements of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and wherein like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in thesseveral views, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of one embodiment of the invention applied. Fig. 3 is a View in vertical section thereof, taken on the line m m of Fig. 1, showing the preferred'manner of mounting. and supporting the attachment and the handstamp, and Fig. 4 is a view in detail of one of the roll-supporting standards. 7

In the drawings, A represents the paperroll, which is rotatably mounted in a supportin g-stand a, the terminal standards 01. thereof being recessed to form approximately -V- shaped ways .or guides a which are radially disposed with respect to the roll and adapted to receive studs, lugs, or projections of the cutter-bar or other attachment.

B represents an attachment combining a hand-stamp, paper-guide, and cutter, which is movably supported upon the roll by having integral outwardly-projecting lugs 19 working in the ways or grooves of the standards The frame or platen of the attachment is provided upon its under side with a rib 19 which extends longitudinally of the roll, and, lying in close contact therewith, serves as a tension by retaining the roll against free rotation.

The upper plate is provided with a projecting portion 19 which extends outward from the frame and is curved upward beyond the circumference of the roll, and has fixed to its outer edge or forming part thereof a cutter 12 by which the web may be divided into suitable lengths on being drawn upward against it and at the same time held separated from the'roll in a manner. to be grasped without inconvenience or delay. In the opening b between the plates a self-inking hand-stamp Z9 is detachably locked and supported clear of the platen by having the brace-rods b which connect its legs 12 seated in grooves Z1 formed in the adjacent sides of the plates, which latter are notched, as at b, to receive the legs, as is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings.

The many advantages, as Well as the operation, of this device will be apparent from the foregoing description.

' Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. The combination with the roll paper'holding stand, of an attachment, comprising a platen movable in ways of the stand, plates removably secured to and above the platen and forming a guide for the paper, one of the plates being provided with a projecting curved portion terminating in a cutting edge, and a hand stamp detachably locked between the plates,for the purpose described.

2. The combination with the roll paper holding stand, of an attachment, comprising a platen movable in ways of the stand and having its under side provided with a rib adapted to rest upon the roll, plates removably secured to and above the .platen in a manner to form a guideway for the paper, one of the plates having a projecting upward curved portion terminating in a cutter, and a hand stamp detachably locked between the plates, for the purpose described.
