WIRE FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 544,001, dated August 6, 1895.v
Application filed March 28,1895. Serial No. 543,484. (No model.)
' the same.
My invention relates to improvements in wire fences, having for its object primarily to provide means for holding and supporting the line-wires of which the fence is made up.
The invention consists of a metallic picket which is bolted or otherwise secured to the side of the fence-post and to the line-wires between the posts, provided with a series of slots therein equal in number to the number of line-wires, and iiuted laterally at points Vadjacent to said slots, thereby forming a generally iiat rear surface with ridges along its front surface and recesses through which the line-wires are adapted to pass. Through the slots in said picket back of the line-wires a vertically-disposed securing wire or rod is 'adapted to be passed.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-a Figure 1 is a side view of a fence, showing my improvement applied, and Fig. 2 is an end elevation of one of the posts with my picket secured thereto.
Like reference-numerals indicate like part-s in the Various views.
1 represents the fence-posts, 2 2 the linewires of the fence, and 3 my pickets bolted or otherwise secured to the posts 1 and to the line-wires between the posts. These pickets are preferably made of sheet metal one inch wide and one-eighth of an inch thick; but
their dimensions may obviously be Varied to suit varied conditions. They are laterally tinted, as at 4, forming a generally hat surface, ridges upon its front face, and recesses for the passage of the line-wires 2 2 there'- through. The said pickets are also slotted, as .at 5 5, in the fluted portions 4, and through the slots 5, to the rear of the line-wires 2, a vertical holding or securing rod or wire 6 is passed.
By this construction it will be seen that the line-wires 2 are passed through the recesses formed by the iiutes 4c, and are supported at all times in proper relative position, and are secured and held in place by the rod or wire 6.
The device is very simple in construction, can be cheaply made, readily applied, and is extremely effective for the purpose for which it was designed'. v
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a fence post, of pickets made of sheet metal and adapted to be lbolted or otherwise secured thereto or to the line wires between the posts, each of said pickets being tinted` laterally at intervals throughout its length forming its rear surface substantially dat, its front surface with ridges and recesses for the passage of the line wires therethrough and slotted in said fluted portions, and a vertically disposed securing rod or wire passing through the said slots in the rear of the line Wires, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS LNIOKERNS.
