Description

UNITE STAT S PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL KWARNEBERG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
PAINT COMPOUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,308, dated July 23, 1895.
' Application filedMay 5, 1894:. Serial No. 510,423. (No specimens.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, PAUL KWARNEBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paint Compounds, of
which the following is a full, clear, and exact.
- consists of fifty-two (52) gallons of linseed-oil,
four (4) pounds of turpentine of a thick consistency, like mush, twelve (12) pounds of litharge, four (4) pounds of stearine, twelve (12) pounds of japan, and four (4) pounds of sugar of lead.
I generally prepare my paint mixture in the following manner, to wit: Boil the oil for about three (3) hours at a temperature of about 17 5 Reaumur. Then allow it to cool and place it in a suitable tank or receptacle and allow it to settle, so that impurities and foreign substances may sink to the bottom. When sufficient time has elapsed for this purpose, I remove the clear oil and put it back into a cooking pan or kettle and reheat it to about the same temperature, 175 Reaumur. Ithen put the sohurgloed into the oil and stir the 35 mass thoroughly then the turpentine, and stir the mass again thoroughly, then the. stearine, again stirring it thoroughly; and then letthe mass boil for about three hours at about the temperature hereinbefore referred to; I then remove the boiling mass from the fire or remove the fire from under it, and as it cools add the japan. The entire mass is then put in a settling tank or receptacle again and allowed to settle, after which it is removed, so
as not to disturb the sediment, and is made ready for use by the addition of desirable coloring-matter.
It will be understood and appreciated that the proportions of ingredients above given
