To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LYNN M. BLYTHE, of Salem, in the county of Essex, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff- Holders, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being. had to the acc'ompany-- ing drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cuff-holder in position on a cuff, the body of the cuff being shown as broken away; Fig. 2, a transverse section on line 2 2 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a plan view showing the device in connection with the cuff.

Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.

Many cuff-holders of ordinary construction are not applicable for use with that class of cuffs in which link cuff-buttons are. employed or in which the edges of the cuff are permitted to spread apart. This is owing particularly to the peculiar construction of the cuff at that portion by which it is attached My invention is designed particularly to overcome this objection and to permit link cuff-buttons to be employed with cuffs of ordinary construction, and in carrying it out I make use of means which will be readily understood by those conversant with such matters from the following explanation.

In the drawings, A represents the cuff, which may be of any of the ordinary constructions, and. which is provided with button-holes b d, located in the usual positions.

The cuff-holder B comprises a shank A, at one end of which a head 0 is formed. This head has two arms g, projecting laterally from the shank, and projecting vertically from said arms there are angle-arms or elbows h, substantially in parallelism with the shank. A T-piece 11 is formed at the outer ends of the arms g. The head with its arms and T-pieces and the shank are preferably integral or blanked from a single sheet of metal. A spring-clamp D, of ordinary and well-known construction, has itsjaw-pivot k elongated, and said extended portion swivels in a socket.

In the use of my improvement the cufffiaps are connected by an ordinary link-button H in the button-holes d. To attach the cuff to the wristband the holder B is employed. The T-pieces are brought into alignment with the button-holes b and projected therethrough from the inner face of the cuff with the elbows h bearing against the inner face of the cuif. As the shank f is then thrown downward to fasten the clamp to the shirt-sleeve the heads of said T-pieces are disposed across the button-holes and said e1- bows spread, the adjacent edges of the cuff forming a strong leverage-to hold the cuff firmly in position as thus spread and prevent it from accidental displacement.

The elbows form a salient feature of my invention and may be varied as to their shape at will, it not being essential that the angular shape shown be employed. I

The holder is attached to the wristband by means of the spring-clamp D, which is engaged with an edge of the placket-opening of said wristband. By this means the cuff is also readily adjustable as to its length. It is not essential that the sprin g-clam p be swiveled to the shank of the holder, but I deem such construction preferable.

By my improvement the cuff is held in place on the wrist and the edges thereof separated so that'when acuff of the ordinary construction is employed it is as effective in appearance as the usual cuff-link.

Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is 1. The cuff-holder comprising a shank; a laterally projecting head formed integral therewith and having devices for engagingin the button-holes of a cuff; vertically arranged spreading arms on said head; and devices for attaching the holder to a wrist-band.

2. The holder, B, comprising a shank, 1, having the head, 0, provided with the T- pieces, 2', and vertically arranged spreading arms, h, formed integral with said head, and the clasp, D, swiveled to said shank, all being arranged to operate substantially as described.
