` J. R. ROSCOB. DISPLAY STAND.
No. 541,457. Patented June 25,1895.
UNITED STATES ATENT j FFICE.
JOI-IN R. ROSCOE, OF FORT DODGE, IOWA.
DISPLAY-STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,457, dated J' une 25, 1895.
Application led April 15, i895. Serial No. 545,734. (No model.)
2"@ @ZZ whom, it may concer-re.-
Be it known that I, JOHN R. ROSCOE, a citizen of the United States, .residing at Fort Dodge, in the county of Vebster and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Merchandise -Display Stands; and Ido declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and uselthe same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for displaying merchandise, and has forits object the production of an efficient holder designed mainly for the display of -such goods as can be' conveniently kept in glass j ars or other receptacles, such holder being simply and economically constructed and possessing other advantages in point of ready accessibility to the jars or other receptacles, cleanlinesss, attractiveness and durability.
The nature of my invention will appear from a reading of the following description, when taken in connection with the drawings', in whichm Figure lis a plan view of my improved holder. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view showing three jars in position, and Fig.l3 is an end elevation.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A denotes the top of the holder which is provided with any number of openings a. for the reception of the jars or other receptacles, and which may be made of any suitable material.
On the lunder side of the tableland preferably at each corner thereof are projections or lugs d o. which form dove-tailed seats for the dove-tailed upper ends i9 of the supporting legs b which are by this construction removably secured in position, bolts h2 completing the connection. Below the table is a rod c hung and held in position centrally of the width of the table preferably by means of brackets d, each of which is formed of two arms d d having reduced and screw-threaded upper ends which Yare passed through the table and secured by nuts d2. The lower ends of the arms of each bracket are connected together and provided with an opening d3 through which a reduced end of the rod is Y passed. In practice two brackets are provided, one at each end, and if anumber of jars are to be supported by the rod, I interpose single hanger rods e, each of which is headed at one end e to support the rod through which it is passed, and threaded at its other end e2 which latter is passed through the table and secured by an nut e3.
It desired, instead of threading the upper ends of the arms d of thebrackets, and the f means of connection being to recess the un-v der side of a step sufficiently to saddle the rod and to pass a bolt through the step and rod and secure sameby a nut. To further sup- ,f
port the jar I may form fianges h around the openings in the top for the jars and provide jars with beads fv which in Vpractice rest on said flanges. The openings are lined with felt, rubber-or other material as at l,-andj is a felt, rubber or -other pad arranged in the recess in the upper side of each of the steps. Each of the jars or other receptacles is provided with a coverf2.
It will be observed by reference to the foregoing that the holder is made up of a number of separable parts, easily assembled, and hence may be readily packed in small compass for transportation. The legs moreover, are preferably provided with casters,in order that when set up the holder may be readily moved around a store or other room.
By my invention such goods as preserves, coffees, teas, dac., which are originally furnished in opaque and cumbersome receptacles, are exposed in an attractive manner, and with the minimum economy of floor space. The ready accessibility to the jars or other receptacles saves considerable time both to the merchant and purchaser, and promotes cleanliness. The few number of parts employed IOG and their manner of connection insure dumbility, and also lightness, and added to these the invention is susceptible of embodiment in very attractive form.
5 I claim as my invention- A display stand comprising a top provided with holes each of which receives a recepta` cle, legs for supporting the top having dovetail connection therewith, a. rod secured in ra position below the top by brackets and interposed hanger rods, and steps on the rod having recessed upper ends to receive the lower ends of the receptacles.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN R. ROSCOE. Witnesses:
CHARLES CRAFT, E. A. WEST.
