FREDERICK F. WRIGHT, OF PHCENIX, NEW YORK; GEORGIA K. \VRIGI-IT, AD-
MINISTRATRIX OF SAID FREDERICK F. WRIGHT, DECEASED, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES F. LOOMIS, OF SAME PLACE.
SOLID OR VENEERED DOOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,450, dated June 18, 1895. Application filed May 26,1893. Serial N... 4'l5,598. (No man.)
- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK F. WRIGHT, of Phoenix, in the county of Oswego, in the State of New York, have invented new and 5 useful Improvements 'in Solid or Veneered Doors,of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to the construction of solid or veneered doors, but having more special reference to the construction of the rails and stiles which constitute the frame.
My object is to produce a door, the stiles and rails of which are secured'together positively as hereinafter set forth, so that any shrinkage of the timber, incidental to its seasoning, will not cause the joints to open, and having no dowels to disfigure the surface of the door; and to that end my invention consists in the new and novel features of construction and combination of parts, hereinafter described and which are specifically set forth in the claim hereunto annexed. It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a door showing the features of my construction in the lower right-hand corner in vertical section. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of one corner, showing the detail construction and showing tenon and dowel-pin 0 in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the stile in vertical section.
A, is a door having stiles -aand rails b'-, the stiles having one or more mortises, as shown, and the rails a similar number of tenons cadapted to engage therewith.
. ,d, is a dowel pin inserted vertically into the stiles, passing through or into the tenons c, thereby securing and positively looking the joint. 40
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A door as an article of manufacture, comprising stiles and rails suitably mortised and tenoned together, and dowel pins inserted into and lengthwise of the stiles and passing through both tenons upon the rails, whereby the exposed surfaces of the door are retained perfect and unbroken and the said dowel pins thereby rendered invisible, as specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set-my hand this 10th day of April, 1893.
FREDERICK F. WRIGHT.
In presence of-- C. W. SMITH, HOWARD P. DENISON.
