SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,172, dated June 18, 1895.

Be it known that I, HARRYLUcAs, manufacturer, a citizen of Great Britain, residing at The Tom Bowling Lamp Works, in the city of Birmingham, county of Warwick, England, have invented an Improved Cycle-Lamp, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cycle lamps, and its object is to produce a lamp which is more convenient to use and is more readily cleaned than the ordinary cycle lamps now in use. At the same time the advantages are obtained without any increased complexity of construction.
The invention consists in so constructing the lamp as to enable the body to open diagonally so that the back and one side form one part while the front and the other side form another part. The part forming the front and one side is hinged to the back part and fastened to it when closed by any convenient catch. The oil vessel is also carried by the back part. The top of the lamp and the reflector are made together and grooves are pro vided in the back of the lamp in which to slide in the reflector and thus hold the top in position. A very convenient construction suitable for cleaning is thus obtained.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the lamp with the front hinged part open. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the hinged part closed and the top part with the reflector partly pulled out. Fig. 3 is a separate side elevation of the top part with the reflector attached; and Fig. 4 is a plan of the lamp with the top removed, showing the grooves in which the reflector-slide operates.
The front A and the side B are in one piece and hinge from the other side and back part respectively 0 and D as shown in Fig. 1. By so hinging, the whole interior of the lamp is at once opened for cleaning and inspection. Grooves E E are formed in the back part and in them fits the slide F carrying the reflector G and the top part H.
The oil vessel I is held in a casing forming part of the portions 0 and D. This arrangement of lamp is very simple and easily taken apart for cleaning.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An improved cycle lamp in which the front and one side are in one piece constructed to form one part, and the back and the other side are constructed to form the other part, the two parts being hinged together to open diagonally, in combination with a removable lamp top, and a slide carrying the said top and the reflector, the said slide operating in grooves in the lamp back substantially as described.
