Description

(TNO Model.)
AMORRIS F No. 541,000. .Patented Jim@ '101, 1805.
lvHENRY e. MORRIS, OFPHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
FAN.'
' sPEcIFIcATIQN forming part ef Lettere Patent No. 541,000, dated June 11, 1895. Applieenon nea semester 22, 1894. Serial' No. 523.801,. (No model.)
Soc/ZZ whom it may concef f -Be it knownthat HENRY G. MORRIS, a citizen ofthe United States, residing in Philai delphiaJ Pennsylvania, have invented certain vmproveuients', in Fans, ot whichthe follow--Y ing is a specification. 'l f My ,invention relates to improvements in' 4the construction of the driven portion of a fanor blower, and the object of my invention is to make this portion of the fauaccurately and economically. This object I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which@` vFigure l is a sectional elevation of my im-..
.proved fan, showing thel casing in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a plan view. f Figfisa perwspect-ive view showing .oneof .the blades de tached. Fig. eis a perspective view'show'ing -f theblades attached to thebody, and Figs. 5
and 6v are views in detail showing the method of attaching the blades to the body..
- -My-irnprovement is especially applicable to -sm'all fans used for cooling and' Ventilating rooms,l butf it will be understood that Athe drivenporton of a large fan or blower may be madein-accordance with my invention.
A is"l -a hollow sha't'torsleeve which is l.adapted to be secured tothe drifving shaft in any suitable man-ner.
B'B are twodetlectin'g cones.' formed-v di fsheet metal,'as shown in Fig. V 1; each cone l:-being extended'to .form anges b. The de- -filecting cones-are secured to the shaft A in any suitable manner.. a f .v
C are theblades which are shaped in the present instance to fit the casing-D, shown bydotted lines in Fig. 1,. but it willbe under stood-that they ,maybe shaped differently to lit Other'ca'si'ngs. Each blade has a struck up rib@ at the back, and this -rib is partly slotted :at e', so that thejinner portion-of y the..blad`e `will pass overitheiianges b'of the cones.' The icones areno'teh'ed ate, so as' to receive apor tionof theblad'e, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5L Byslotting the blade, as. described, I form ojiian'ges c2, and I perforat'ethese -anges :oneendQ so that a rivet or screw f, shown l flanges and through the body, thus securing .the blade rigidly' to thebody. f
.In small fans I have found it only necessary to secure theblades with one rivet, but in larger fans a'series of rivets or`bolts may he used, if found necessary.
By forming tliebladesin the manner de scribed, I not only give the blade the required l rigidity, but also provide ready means for attaching the bl'adeto the-bod .ln some instances, where a fan is made- 2. The combinat-ion of the body. having flanges in its periphery, a seres'of blades partlyslotted and hav'ing'iianges on each side of .the slot, eaehIblade being adapted to a notch in the body, and secured thereto at the .inner end, substantially as described.
e 3. The combination of the two danged cones secured together,`.witl1 ribbed blades, the rib -of each blade being slotted forming. flanges, .with means for securing the anged blades tothe "cones, substantially as described.
4. AThe combination of the two lian ged cones, thel hollow shaft by which the cones are secured Atogethe`r`,sl1eet metal blades having .struck up ribs, the rib of each bladeobeing slotted-forming anges, and means for securing thebladesto the cones, substantially as described.
- In testimony whereof I have 'signed .my
'name tothisspecification in the Figs. L.tand 6,` can 'bej passed through the
