Description

M. M. @DELL BIIB. 'A l Patented June 11,1895.
WI TJV' ESSES INVENTOR Mry I? I 2?" Attorney Ninn STATES ATENT rien,
BIB.'
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent' No. 540,756, dated J une 11, 1895.
To all whom it mayooncern:
Be it known that I, MARY MATILDA ODELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county and State of New York, have invented certainA new and useful Improvements in Infants Bibs, of which the following is a full and clear description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which' it pertains vto make and use the same.-
My invention relates to bibs such as are usually worn by infants to protect the dress and outer garments from being soiled or wet; and my invention consists of the improved bib, which I shall hereinafter fully describe and specifically claim.
In the drawing the figure represents an infants bib embodying my invention.
In the manufacture of my bib any textile fabric such as linen, cotton or .the like may be used. A piece of the goods is cut to the desired shape and this piece A, is bound at the selvage, by tape or stitching, to prevent fraying. It may also be ornamented in any suitable manner. This is the bib proper.
A tie string B or other well known fastening means may be employed to secure the bib in place.
To the part'A is attached in any appropriate manner, at the top of the bib A, the pad C, which latter, preferably, corresponds with the form of the bib, but is of smaller size,
Appnclnon ne@ nach 25,1894. seri`51n0.5o5,o59. (No model.)
and it is detachable from the bib A in order to admit of its being washed and replaced at pleasure. 'Thisl padC is' purposely made of thick material, or it`may be padded withabsorbent material and quilted, the object being to absorb all moisture that may percolate through the bib proper; and said pad is 1ocated atthe back of the bib so that it normally lies parallel with the bib and between the back of the same and the infants outer garments.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' As an article of manufacture, an infants bib consisting of the bib A having means for securing it about the neck of the infant, an absorbent pad on the back of the bib corresponding essentially with v the form thereof, but of smaller size, and adapted to normally lie parallel with the bib and between the back of the same and the infants outer garment, and a means between theV upper edge of the pad and upper edge of the bib whereby said pad is detachably connected with the bib so that it may be readily removed when soiled.
