My invention relates to an improvement in lamp-fount holders, which are the ornamental bowls or heads receiving and supporting the oil-containing founts of lamps, the object being to produce, at a low cost'of manufacture,

a sectional holder which shall have the appearance of being cast in a single piece, but the sections of which shall be firmly united without soldering or brazing.

With these ends in view my invention consists in a lamp-fount holder having certain details of construction and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

As herein shown, the bowl is cast in four corresponding segmental sections A, A,'A, A, each of which terminates at its upper end in an upwardly extending flange A, and at its lower end in a narrow segmental depending 4o shoulder A The upper ends of the segmental sections are fastened together by means of metal clips B, which may be of any approved construction, and which unite the abutting ends of the flanges, which together form an annular flange at the top of the bowl. The lower ends of the said sections are held together by means of an ornamental basepiece 0, constructed at its upperedge with a narrow flange 0, within which the segmental 5o shoulders A set, as clearly shown in Fig. 3,

;the said shoulders combining to form an annular shoulder at the bottom of the bowl. The said base-piece is conical in general form, and constructed with a centrally arranged, inwardly extending hub 0 having at its lower end a threaded socket C designed to receive a threaded stud, projecting from the top of the lamp-standard, whatever the form of that may be. For the purpose of permanently connecting the said base piece with the bowl, I employ a skeleton, dish-shaped clampingplate D, having a central perforation 01, receiving a binding-screw D, which passes downward into a small'threaded opening 0, formed in the upper end of the hub G of the base-piece, in line with the threaded socket C thereof, but smaller in diameter than the same. For the purpose of locking the clamping-plate against rotation with the base-piece,

I provide it with four centrally arranged de-- pending lugs D D D D arranged at the four points of a circle, around the perforation d, and adapted to enter the spaces 0 O O 0 formed by wings C C C C radiating from the upwardly projecting hub C of the base- 7 piece, as clearly shown in Fig. 4:. When the parts are assembled, as seen in Fig. 3, the said lugs enter into the said spaces, whereby the base-piece and the clamping-plate are coupled together against rotation. The clampingplate has its edges supported upon the inner faces of the lower ends of the respective sections A of the bowl, as shown in Fig. 3, and

is locked against rotation by the entrance of centrally arranged vertical lugs A formed upon the inner faces of the said sections, at the lower edges thereof, into notches d of which there are four formed in the edge of the plate, which is thus prevented from rotating with respect to the bowl, wherefore the 0 base-piece is prevented from rotating with respect thereto, inasmuch as it is locked against rotation with the clamping-plate.

' It is, of course, apparent that the number of sections in the bowl may be varied, and 5 that the several details of construction described may be changed, and I would therefore have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown and described, but hold myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a lamp-fount holder, the combination with a bowl composed of a plurality of sections, the upper ends of which are secured together, and the lower ends of which are provided with depending segmental shoulders; of a flanged base-piece fitting over the said shoulders and holding the lower ends of the sections together, a clamping-plate non-rotatably connected with the inner faces of the lower ends of the said sections, and provided with centrally depending lugs, which engage with the base-piece and hold it against rotation therewith, and means for drawing and binding the said plate and base-piece together, substantially as described.

2. In a lamp-fount holder, the combination with a bowl composed of a plurality of sections, the upper ends of which are united, and the lower ends of which are provided with depending segmental shoulders together forming an annular shoulder, of a flanged basepiece fitting over the said annular shoulder, and constructed with a central upwardly extending hub having flanges radiating from it,

a clamping-plate having depending lugs extending between the said flanges for locking the clamping-plate and base-piece together against rotation, and having its edge supported upon the inner faces of the lower ends of the said sections, and coupled against rotation therewith; and means for drawing and binding the said plate and base-piece together, substantially as described.

3. In a lamp-fount holder, the combination with a bowl composed of a plurality of sections secured together at their upper ends, and having their lower ends constructed with depending segmental shoulders combining'to form an annular shoulder, of a flanged basepiece fitting over the said annular shoulder, a clampingf-plate non-rotatably connected with the said base-piece, and having its edge notched to receive vertically arranged lugs formed upon the innerfaces of the lower ends of the said sections, and means for binding the said plate and base-piece together, substantially as described.
