SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 539,215, dated May 14, 1895. Application filed May 3, 1894- Serial No. 509,948- (No model.)

To 0056 whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, CARL BI'FRGIN, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Schaffhausen, Switzerland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Receiving-Needles for the Sticking on of Paper Sheets, of which the following is a specification.

For the purpose of stacking and arranging sheets of paper, upon which lithographs or other printed matter is to be produced, in such a manner that the stack of sheets can be so cut that the impression will be precisely the same distance from the edge of the sheet in each case, the said sheets are mounted on pins which are passed through marks on the sheets, so that all the sheets will register absolutely correct. The pinsfor thus' mounting the sheets are provided attheir buttor base ends with a plate or disk by means of which the pins can be placed vertically on a suitablesupport.

Heretofore it has been customary to perforate the pins and provide them with central indentations on the under side, through which the pins are to pass, the butt end of the pin being then secured by means of sol- In use, these pins are placed on a suitable support and their entire under surface rested on the support.

The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved pin for the above-described purpose, which is simple in construction, is held in true vertical position when placed on the support and is lasting and durable.-

The invention consists in a pin provided on its butt or lower end with a head placed in a recess in the upper surface of a disk, the walls of said recess or socket being clamped over the head of the pin, and said pin shaped so as to have a concavity on the under side, and a teat at the center on the under side, whereby when the pin is placed on a support the edges of the disk rest on the support and hold the pin vertically.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved registry-pin. Fig. 2 is a side view of the parts in the process of assembling, the disk being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing in section the disk and the punch and die for uniting the parts and shaping the disk. Fig.

The pin 0 is provided at its butt end with a head I). The disk Ct is provided in the center of its upper surface with a socket or recess 9 formed by an annular ridge projecting from the upper surface of the disk at the center thereof. The head I) of the pin 0 is.

A punch B having a central aperture for the pin 0 is then forced down upon thedisk a on the die A and presses the annular wall or ridge forming the socket or recess e over the pin-head, whereby said pinhead is clamped firmly and securely to the disk. At the same time, the under side of the disk is dished or concaved and provided with a central teat at below the head of the pin,,the die A being shaped accordingly. The teat (1 projects down to, or almost down to the plane of the edge of the disk at so that when the pin is placed on a suitable support for use, the disk restson its edges or on the edges and the'central teat. The pin is held securely in the base-plate or disk, and is not apt to become loosened and under no circumstances, even when loosened, can it drop through the base-plate or disk, as in the pin used heretofore, as the base-plate or disk of my improved pin is not perforated.

The pin can be produced at less cost than the soldered pins, and in a more perfectv manner.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentthe end of the teat so as to afford a support for the device, substantially as set forth.
