Description

UNITE TA'IES FFI? SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent Noi 538,598, dated April 30, 1895.
Appartmentseminarie,189s. sermumstntt. (Nomade.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK C. ROCK- wELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Wring ers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to those wringers that are attached to a pail in which the mop may be rinsed, and which have a pair ot bars or rolls that are operated to squeeze the mop by mechanism moved by the foot of the user for extracting the water and moisture, which flow from the mop back into the pail; and the object is to provide a cheap wringer of this class which is simple in its operation, has great power for extracting moisture from the mop, and which can be applied to any pail.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the wringer. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail view showing how the squeezing-barsv may be rotarily connected with the levers.
In the views, 1 indicatesa pail of any usual form and construction. Around the base of this pail or secured to the bottom is a ring, 2, from the front of which extends a foot rest or bail, 3, to prevent the pail from being accidentally tipped over and also provide a handle for tipping the pailto pour out the Water. From the back of this ring there usually projects a lug, Il, to which is pivoted the end of the lever, 5, that has a foot pad, 6. To the sides of this ring are pivoted the levers, 7, that support at their upper ends the rolls or bars, 8, that extend across the top of the pail. These bars are shown as rigidly connected with the ends of the levers, but may, of course, if desired, be rotarily held, without departing from the invention. At about the middle of each ot' these pairs of levers are hinged the arms of the toggle joints, 9, which toggle arms are joined by a link, 10, with the foot lever, 5, that is annular so as to encircle the pail and be connected on both sides with the toggle arms. This lever, 5, is normally held raised by one or more springs, 11, so that the toggle arms are held open and the levers with the squeezing bars Stand apart. As the foot lever is depressed the toggle arms draw together with great force the levers bearing the squeezing bars, so that the bars squeeze tightly anything that is between them A handle-bail, 12, is provided for lifting the pail yand this bail is connected with the pail by 15, that guide and keep the mop swab from flattening out sidewise when it is being squeezed bythe bars..l On these pieces are also upright ears, 16, that form stops for the upper ends of the levers so ythat the squeezing bars will come together over the center of the pail.
I claim as my inventionu 1. A mop wringer consisting of a pail, an annular ring secured to the bottom of the pail with a foot rest projecting from the front of the ring and a lug projecting from the back of the ring, levers pivoted to each side of this ring between the foot rest and the lug, squeezing bars borne by these levers, a pair of toggles on each side connecting these levers between their pivots and the squeezing bars, an annular band encircling the pail with a lug pivoted to the lug on the ring, and a foot pad at the front, and links pivoted to the annular band and to the joints of the toggle arms, substantially as specified.
2. A mop wringer consisting of a pail, levers bearing squeezing bars pivotally connected with the pail, toggle joints connecting the levers, a foot lever for operating the togglejoints, and stationary guides secured to the pail, said guides having a projection adapted to engage the levers that support the swing ing bars for stopping the levers so that the bars when together will stand over the middle of the pail, and also having apart extending into the pail for preventing the flattening out of the mop swab when squeezed, substantially as specitied.
