IMPROVEMENT IN TREE-PROTECTORS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DALLAS KNowLToN, of Liberty, county of Waldo, and State of Maine, haveinvented a new and Im proved Mode ofPreventing Caterpillars and Forms from Olimbin g the Trunks of Trees; and I do hereby declare the followingto be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in cutting out a circularg talhc late to lit the size of the trunk ofatree, about two inches in width, and having apertures and a pin or fastening to tighten the plate and draw the outside edge downward, forming a cone, to prevent caterpillars or other insects from climbing up the trees.
Figure 1 represents the metallic plate; Fig. 2, the cone; Fig. 3, the pin or fastening.
The plate A is two inches in width, and is made to fit any size trunk of a tree, being divided at B, and having apertures G, in which to insert the pin or fastening D, that has a head on one side and a fork at the lower end to clinch on the opposite side ot'the plate and fasten the plate in a cone shape, so that caterpillars and insects cannot get up the trunks of trees.

A tree-protector having plate A, cut open on one side, as represented, and having apertures O therein, with pin D, all constructed, I
combined, and arranged substantially as herein specified, as a new article of inanufactule.
