NTTED STATES PATENT MARTIN LOFTUS, OF J OLIET, ILLINOIS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o.' 538,336, dated April 30, 1895.
Application iiled February 11,1895. Serial No. 5371945l (N 0 111041819 To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN LOFTUS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Joliet, in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Mop, Mop-Wringer, and Scrubber Combined, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, and the letters ot reference thereon, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figures l and 2 are perspective views and Figs. 3 and 4 side elevations.
This invention relates to certain improvement in a mop, mop wringer and scrubber cornbined, which improvements are set forth and fully explained in the following specification and claim.
Referring to the drawings B represents the mop stick or handle having on its lower end a clamp head L r P for holding one end of the mop rag J, and has also attached to its lower end through the medium of the arm K a scrub brush N.
D is a standard secured to the upper side of the mop stick at some little distance fromits lower end, which standard has pivotally connected toit at its upper end a box F and a latch G.
A is a rod which passes through the box F, and is provided on its lower end with a clamp head I), H, r, for holding one end of a mop rag J, and its opposite or upper end terminates in a crank C by means of which said rod J can be rotated for the purpose of wringing the mop.
When it is desired to use the scrub brush for scrubbing a floor the rod A is drawn back and the mop rag J is stretched out its full length as is shown in Fig..l, and when it is desired to use the mop for mopping door rod A is moved forward as shown in Fig. 3 so as to double up the mop rag, and the Vrod Avis held forward to secure the mop rag in such position by means of the latch G, and the said rod is prevented from rotating'bymeans of its crank C falling into the notch E of stand ard D, as shown in said figure. Byinverting the device from its position shown in Fig. 3, the mop J will be brought in contact with the iioorso it can be used on the iioor instead of the brush N. K
When it is desired to wring the mop the rod A is drawn back its full extent as shown in Fig. 1, and then rotated to twist the mop rag J in the manner shown in Fig. 3,.after which the mop rag can be untwisted and the parts returned to the position shown in Fig. l, to be used as a scrubber, or to the position shown in Fig. 3 to be used as mop.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
The combination of the handle B having a mop head on its lower end and having the standard D provided with notch E and latch G, box F pivotallf,7 attached to the upper end of said standard and rod A adapted to slide in said box and having a mop head on one end, and cranked at its opposite end, all arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
