SINGLE BLOCK FOR HOISTING TAOKLE.
No. 538,294. Patented Apr. 30,- 1895.

JUDSON D. SWAOIOK, OF CANTON, OHIO.
SINGLE BLOCK FOR HOISTING-TACKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 538,294, dated April 30, 1895.
Application filed June 18, 189d.
To all whom iv may concern:
Be it known that I, J UDSON D. SWAOIGK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Canton, county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Single Blocks for Hoisting-Tackle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in single blocks for hoisting tackle, and consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter delates to the construction and adaptation of the swivel ring 0, which is preferably made of malleable cast iron, and is of the form shown, having a head or flanged portion a, a neck portion b, having an inclined face 0 in which is provided an elongated socket 0 opening upward into the ring. At the end portion of the open ring, is provided a tenon d, and inclined faces 01 d, the tenon adapted for insertion into the socket c and the inclined faces 01 d adapted to engage the inclined face 0 in the neck d. The shell for the purposes of this case, is simply a yoke or U plate B, having at its closed end a suitable aperture 6, through which the ring 0 is passed tenon foremost, until the flange a strikes the inner face of the Serial No. 514,862. (No model.)
yoke. The ring is then closed in as indicated by the dotted lines, until the tenon d has passed into the socket c, the toe or end portion of the tenon filling the socket to (30111- plete the circumference of the neck I), the outer face of its extremity resting against the wall of the aperture, thus securing the-ring permanently in the aperture, and against opening or removal, by the ordinary lifting strain on the ring.
The object of my invention which has been thus clearly shown and described, is to provide at a greatly reduced cost, a strong and durable single block for hoisting tackle, and
' What I claim is' The combination, with the sheave frame having an opening, of a malleable ring having a short-headed neck at one end provided in its inner beveled face with a socket opening upwardly into the ring; the opposite beveled end face of the ring being formed with a tenon projecting outwardly beyond the outer face of the ring proper, whereby when the ring is inserted upwardly through the sheave opening its head will engage the frame, and upon the ring being closed the beveled end faces will abut and the tenon be forced downwardly into said neck socket and Within the sheave frame opening, substantially fill said opening and be held permanently from outward movement by the wall of said opening, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my-hand this 9th day of June, A. D. 1894.
JUDSON D. SWA CIOK.
