- SPECIFICATION forniing part of Letters Patent No. 537,105, dated April 9, I895. Application filed June 2,1894. Serial No. 513,312- (No model.) Patented in England, June 2'7, 1893, No. 12,567.
- at Halifax, in the county of York, England, have invented certain. new and useful Im provements in Double-Lift Jacquard Mechanisms for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
Letters Patent for this invention have been obtained in Great Britain, No. 12,567, dated June 27, 1893.
This invention relates to Jacquard mechanism for looms; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is an endelevation of a double lift Jacquard mechanism with our improvements applied. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of'Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is aback elevation of Fig. 1 on a reduced scale. Fig. 4 shows view of detached upright'or wire.
In our improved double lift Jacquard machine we employ single uprights or Wires A in lieu of double uprights, such uprights having preferably two stepsor nebs B and B, and a hook C at the top, the said hook being formed upon the opposite side of the from the nebs B and B. i
The knives or lifters D of the top block or grate K, rise and fall vertically, and operate upon the nebs B of the uprights or Wires required to be lifted, but the knives E of the bottom block or grate L are moved toward the uprights at an angle, (as such block ascends or upright or wire descends alternately) by means of a runner F,
fixed upon suitable brackets G, attached to a slide G upon the bottom block or grate L. The said runner worksin the groove or slot H, of a plate or fixed cam J, or other equivalent device attached to the Jacquard frame W. The groove in the cam is so formed that it brings forward, at each alternate pick, the knives E of the said block, so as to be clear of the hooks C on the tops of the uprights when the said uprights are being raised or lowered by the knives D, and so that the nebs B are clear of the knives D when the uprights are being raised or lowered by the knives E. erse, the said knives E engage with the hooks C, and ease or lift the uprights A (required down) off the knives of the stand grate M, and the pattern card N (operating on the needles P simultaneously as the said block L begins t'o'descend) pushes the said uprights clear of the said stand grate, allowing'the uprights to descend with the bottom block L, and rest upon the bottom fixed plate R until again required to be lifted by the top or bottom blocks K or L as the case may be, according to the pattern.
The knives D of the top block K, when lifting the uprights or wires A on to the stand grate M, engage with the nebs B of such uprights.
When the bottom blockL (being at the bottom ot' its traverse) is required to lift certain uprights, the pattern cards are so stamped that as the said block begins to ascend, they operate upon the respective needles, pressing the said uprights forward so that the knives E engage with the hooks O and lift the respective uprights as desired. When required down they are operated upon by the needles and cards in the ordinary way as before described. In stamping these cards they are stamped so that a blank signifies a change, that is, either a lift (by pressing the respective uprights on to the knives of the bottom block L) or a drop of the uprights, by such uprights being pushed off the stand grate as before described.
By our improved construction of jacquard the mechanism is greatly simplified, and we can employ six hundred, nine hundred, or twelve hundred uprights per jacquard as found suitable.
The fixed plate R supports the uprights in their lowest position, and the stand grate M supports the uprights in their raised position. The uprights are raised by the knives Dor E as controlled by the needles P and the pattern card. When the pattern card and needles move the uprights forward they are raised by the knives E, and when they are not pushed forward they are raised by the knives D. The
hooks O of the uprights disengage from the knives E as soon as the said knives deposit the nebs B on the fixed plate R and descend from under the hooks C.
'What we claim is-- 1. In a Jacquard mechanism, the combination, with the uprights A provided with nebs B and B on one side, and the hooks O on the other side; of the fixed plate R supporting the uprights in their lowest position, the stand grate M provided with knives engaging with the nebs B and supporting the uprights in their raised position; the vertically movable knives D engaging with the nebs B and operating to raise and lower the uprights; the vertically and laterally movable knives E, working alternately of the knives D, engaging with the hooks O, and also operating to raise and lower the uprights; and the needles controlled by the pattern card, operating to move the uprightslaterally, and thereby controlling their engagement by the said knives, substantially as set forth.
2. In a Jacquard mechanism,the combina tion, with the uprights A provided with nebs B and B on one side, and hooks C at the top on the otherside; of the fixed plate R arranged at the bottom of the machine and supporting the uprights when in their lowest position, the stand grate M provided with knives engaging with the nebs B and supporting the uprights in their raised position; the vertically movable knives D engaging with the nebs B and operating to raise and lower the uprights, the vertically and laterally movable knives E engaging with the hooks O and also operating to raise and lower the uprights, the stationary cam plate H operating to move the knives E laterally clear of the hooks O at each alternate pick; and the needles controlled by the pattern card and operating to move the uprights laterally, substantially as set forth.
