To all whom it may concern.-
Springfield, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new 5 and useful Improvements in Cultivators, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to straddle row cultivators. Itis embodied in the structure hereinafter described, and it is defined. in the apxo pended claims.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a side elevation of a cultivator beam equipped in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan of the beam and r5 adjuncts. Fig. 3 is a perspective representation of an end of a cross bar of the cultivator, with a specific form of standard fastened thereto.- Fig. 4 is a perspective representation of the bracket and bar used to couple the cross bar to the draft beam.
The draft beam is shown at 1 and the cross bar at 2. The coupling between the beam and the bar comprises the bracket 3 and the bar 4., joined together pivotally at the rear of 2 5 the bracket and the center of the bolt by means of the vertical pin 5. The bracket has a hole 3* through which and the bars of the draft beam a bolt extends and forms a pivot; and it also has a set of holes 3* which enables the bracket to be bolted on the beam at various degrees of inclination. both are to be connected with the arch frame in the customary, or any desirable, manner. Adjustmentof the draft beam in bracket 3 inclines the shovels forward or backward to adapt the cultivator to different kinds and conditions of soil, but has the effect of raising the shovels at one end of the cross bar while depressing those at the other end. To neutralize this effect when it is desired that the shovels shall run level, and to provide for such tilting when, to favor the roots or'for any other reason, it is desirable that the shovels at one end shall run deeper than those at the other, the adjustment of the cross bar on bar 4 is provided for, and, as before stated, the link'permits all adjustments while holding the cross bar in such position that the shovels will run one in advance of another.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1.- In a cultivator, the combination of a draft beam, a bracket having vertical swinging adjustment on the rear end of the beam, and an 5 Y oblique, tiltable, shovel-carrying cross bar connected with the bracket, substantially as set forth.
