To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM SCHARN- WEBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Water-Closet Ventilatore, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, whereinf Figure l is a vertical section through my improved ventilator. Fig. 2 isasimilar view of a slightly modified form. Fig. 3 is a crosssectional View, illustrating the manner of bracing the central draft tube; and Fig. 4 is a view illustrating my improved ventilator in use.

This invention relates to a new and usefu improvement in water closet ventilators, and consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as will hereinafter be more fully described and afterward pointed out in the claim.

I ain aware that Ventilating pipes have been led from behind the trap to the exterior, or, sometimes, it is discharged into a draft fine, the theory being that the heat of the flue will cause the air in the ventilator-pipe to ascend and be discharged through the chimney. This may be accomplished when the flue is in a heated condition, but immediately that the flue becomes cold there is no circulation in the ventilator-pipe, and, consequently, it is useless for the purposes for which it was designed.

In the drawings, A indicates a Yurinal or bowl, from which is ledf rom some convenient point located in front of the trap, a pipevB. This pipe B, I preferably connect to a casing C, in which casing is located a lamp,'gasjet, or other heat-generating medium. The lamp or gas-jet creates a draft, which is directed upwardly through a short section of pipe D, forming substantially a continuation of the pipe B. This pipeD is tapered, or formed smaller at the top than at its bottom. The casing C is preferably formed with a base portion C', by which it may rest upon some suitable support, and a top-portion C, which terminates in a pipe E of larger diameter 5o than the short section of pipe D which is introduced thereinto for a short distance.

In order to gain access tothe interior of the casing to attend the heat-generating medium,

I preferably arrange sovas to co-operate with the base C and the upper section C of the casing, a sliding section F, which may be raised, and the lamp, as shown in Fig. l, removed or inserted in position, as desired. In this sliding section is a door f, which is pref- 6o erably of some transparent material, so that the heat-generating medium will be visible without necessitating the raising of the sliding section F.

As shown in Fig. 2, the pipe D,forming the central draft-tube of the casing, is provided with an opening d for the purpose of giving accessto the gas burner for purposes of light'- ing, &c.

Both the pipes D and D', forming the cen- 7o tral draft tube in the casing,form, in connection with the casing C, a space through which air is constantly circulated, therefore, the casing,.comprising the parts O, O and F is not liable to become heated.

In a water closet' ventilator, the combination with a casing, an inlet pipe leading 8o into the bottom/0f the casing, an exit pipe leading from the top of the casing, a draft tube arranged within the casing, which tube is formed with tapering side walls, the smaller end extending somewhat up into the exit pipe, saiddraft tube being braced from the casing forming a space which entirely surrounds the same, a sliding section on the casing and a heat generating medium located in the draft tube, substantially as described.
