NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK H. OULLEN, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
GUIDE FOR STOP-COCK BOXES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of. Letters Patent NO. 536,268, dated March 26, 1895.
Application filed January 4. 1894. Serial No. 495,611. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK H. CULLEN, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Guides for Stop- Oock Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the-accompanying drawings, forming part of this specificatiomin which Figure 1 is a partial central vertical section of a casing-box provided with my improved guide, and showing the cock in elevation; and is a top plan view of the guide-ring or My invention relates to the boxes employed for the cooks of underground pipes, and is designed to provide means for holding the body of the cock in central position therein, and thus insure its easy operationby the turning rod. 7
To that end it consists in aloose guide which abuts against the body of the cock inside the box and prevents its displacement.
In the drawings, 2 indicates the body of the casing-box, which is of the usual form, having recesses 3 at each side for the entrance of th pipes.
4 is the cock of the ordinary form, having the plug-valve 5 fitted therein, and provided with the T-handle 6. About the body of the cock fits the loose guide-ring -7, having an outer flange 8, and a central hole provided on one side with a slot 9 to allow its being slipped down over the T-handle.
It is obvious that in place of a loose ring, projections of any suitable form may be cast upon the inner sides of the casing-box to abut against the cock-body and prevent side movements of the cock and insure its being in position for operation by the rod.
The advantages of the invention are apparent, since much trouble is experienced in turning the valve on account of its displacement at one side by the action of frost or otherwise.
I claim as my invention- The combination with a casing-box for underground cocks, of a guide therein having a central hole of larger diameter than the cockbody and arranged to prevent lateral movement of the cock beyond a determined point; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
FRANK H. OULLEN.
