Application filed December 10, 1894. Serial-No. 5 31,367. (No model.) I
.ful Improvements in Root-Cutters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. My invention relates to feed cutters and consists in the peculiar arrangement, construction, and combination shown and described. This invention is an improved construction over that part' of my invention described in my application, Serial No. 529,90 filed November 26, 1894, that relates to feed cutting mechanism. Figure 1 is a side elevation of the cutter. Fig. 2 is an end [sectional view on line X-X of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail of the cutting mechanism. Fig. 4 is a detail of the back of the knives. I
In the drawings, F is the frame of the machine.
1 is the cutter wheel and has through its face one or more rectangular slots S. r r K are knives secured to the wheel by bolts K and are parallel to and project over the slots S.
K are holes through the wheel for the purpose of adjusting the knives K to a less on than that shown in the drawings.
\ T, T are slicing knives having inclined backs and are secured to the back of the wheel by'base plates and screws, and extend through the slots S at regular distances at right angles to the slots, and just below and beyond the knife K, and are for the purpose of cutting into the body of the feed being cut and slicing it to be shaved off by the knife K.
Line Y in Fig. 3 indicates the top of the knife T having but one screw fastening, T. 7 is a shaft carrying the wheel "1 and this shaft. may be turnedby the crank 9 on the shaft 10 carrying the large pinion 11 meshing into the smaller pinion 8 on the shaft 7.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by JOHN P. NIOKODEMUS.
