GAS-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,117, dated March 19, 1895..
Application filed August 24, 1894:.Y
ment in Gas-Stoves; and lI do declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains t make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to new and useful iinprovements in gas stoves or ranges. The object of the invention is to provide means for carrying off the odor arising from the gas. To this end I provide means that will be fully described in the following specification and specifically setout in the subjoined claim.
In the accompanying drawings which form a supplement to the specification, Figurel is a view in perspective, of a stove embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line ()-(w) of Fig. 1.
The stove A is constructed of sheet and cast iron with a view to reducing theweight to a minimum. The upper section is provided with a series of partitions (a) (al) (af) constructed of sheet iron and riveted-to the top the least affect the others.
and bottom plates C and D, respectively, and provide four separate and independent compartments (c) (c) (d) (CZ) in each of which there is an individual burner (e) which is so confined and separated from the adjacent burners so that the 'flame of one burner, or the air entering one compartment does not in The various arrows point the avenues through which the air enters and leaves each compartment.
(f) is an air opening which extends all the way across the front of the stove, through which air is fed to the front compartments, y while the openings (g) for the rear compart- Serial No. 521,148. (No model.)
ments extend through the rear half of the sides as shown in Fig. 1.
(i) (1" (t are exits through which the odor arising from the gas is carried off through the escape pipe H. It will thus be seen that each compartment is subjected to a separate air draft unaffected by each other, so that the heat and gas generated in each compartment are confined within said space.
F designates the supply pipe, and (j) (j) (la) (10') are valves that control the feed of gas to the rear and front burners respectively.
(m) and (m) are pipes extending to the rear burners. Y
Having described my invention, I claim- A fuel gas stove having its upper section divided into front, and rear non-communicating chambers (d)(d), and (0)-(c), by stationary partitions (t0-(cd) and (CW), each of said chambers being adapted to contain one burner; the two front chambers (d)-(d) having separate air inlets (f)(f) at the front ot' the stove, and separate outlets communicating with a common outlet (11 that intervenes between the two rear chambers (0)-(0), the said two rear chambers also having separate air .inlets (g) in the rear sides of the stoves, and separate outlets (2U-(17), whereby means are provided for carrying off the fumes arising from the products of combustion, and for enabling the burner in each chamber to burn, free from the retarding influences of the heat and dames generated by the adjacent burners, and for protecting each burner from the drafts arising from the adjacent chambers, as is herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of July, 1894.
ELMER D. ABBOTT.
