IMPROVEMENT IN sTRAw-CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,4H6, dated March 27, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MUNSON COLE, of Colebrook, Litchfield conn ty, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Straw- Cutter; and I do hereby declare that the fol lowing is a full and exact description thereof, reference bein ghad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in making the bottom board ot' the strawcntter ot` the shape of the letter V, to correspond with the shape ot' one ot' the knives, which is iirmly attached to the end of the cutting-box.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I make the bottom of the receiving-box for the straw concave or ot' a V shape, to correspond with the shape of the edge ot' the knife attached to the end ofthe receiving-box.
One knife is attached to a sliding frame, B which slides in grooved posts.
Lever C is pivoted to the center ofthe sliding frame B and works upon a swinging or vibrating fnlcrum, D, of which the-lower end is pivoted to one part of the machine. By this arrangement lever C can be pressed inwardly against the stationary knit'e with a closer shear-cnt.
A is a full view ot' the machine. B is the sliding` frame, to which one knife is attached. Iis the Working lever. D is the vibrating fulcrnm.
I do not claim the knives, nor the sliding frame, nor the lever separate and in detail considered.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
