DUPLICATING APPARATUS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 532,205, dated January 8, 1 895.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS D. KLABER, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new, useful, and valuable Improvement in Duplicating Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My present invention relates to duplicating apparatus, and has for its objects, first, to provide comparatively simple, practical and economical means for duplicating autographic writing, type writing, 850.; second, to provide means for supporting the several parts of the duplicating apparatus in most convenient positions during the process of duplicating or printing, and, third, to provide means whereby the several lids of the apparatus or stand can be folded so as to inclose the several parts of the duplicating apparatus within the compartment thus formed for the purpose of protectin g the apparatus from dirt and from being damaged when not in use. I accomplish these ends by the construction and arrangement of parts substantially as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view showing the several parts of my improved apparatus in operative position. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same.

The telescoping standard consisting of the parts 1, 2, 3,is rigidly attached at its upper end 3 to the underneath side of the lid 4, to which is preferably attached the printing frame 5, having the hinged stencil holding hinged frame 6. To the right-hand edge of said lid 4 is hinged the lid 7, to which is preferably attached an ink slate 8. To the front edge of said lid 7 is hinged the triangular lid 9, adapted to carry the printing roller 10, said triangular lid automatically falling into the position shown at Fig. 2 whenever the two lids 7 and 11 are each folded toward each other so as to cause their outer edges to meet as shown at Fig. 2. The adjacent edges of lids 4 and 7 are cut away so as to form the longitudinal slot 12, through which the printed sheets may be discharged from the printing frame into the basket which is supported by the hinged bracket 13, said basket falling back out of the way whenever the arm 14 is unlatched.

To the rear edge of lid 4 may ,behinged the triangular lid 15, which preferably rests against the wall when the apparatus is in use, but which may be let down if desired so as to form an additional receptacle for articles such as ink bottles, blotters, &c.

It should be particularly noted that I contemplate employing the lid 4 to form the base board 16 of the printing frame and the upper surface of the lid 7, plain or inlaid with slate or other material, as the ink distributing surface, instead of having these several parts detachable.

I prefer employing a printing frame of the form used with the Neostyle duplicating apparatus, although I do not confine myself to any particular construction of the printing frame.

What I claim is- In a duplicating apparatus the combination with a central lid or stand suitably supported, of a plurality of lids hinged thereto and adapted when folded upwardly and toward each other to form a completely or partially inclosed compartment, the upper surface of said stand and lids when opened forming or securing the several parts of the duplicating apparatus or serving as receptacles.
