My invention relates to oil cans, and consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combination of the parts shown and described.

Across the middle of the stopper is a bent bar, 9, the bow of the bar being at the center thereof and adapted to fit around and engage a nozzle 211 on the end of the pump spout and hold it'in place.

Qing it rigid in the can. v This tube 16 is provided with a longitudinal ridge 18,"upon one side thereof, forming a grooveuponthe Ainside of the tube as shownin Fig. 3. f In this groove the pump plunger, 19, works, which consists of a small Wire having on the lower end thereof a valve. This valve consists of a circular piece, 20,- secured on its circumference to the plunger 19 and having extending up through the middle of it the projections 22 which pass through the leather packing 21, their endsbeing turned down as shown in Fig. 4, and thereby holding the leather to thetop ofthe piece 20, the outer edge of the leather being free to move to and from the piece 2O as the plunger is raised or lowered, thusallowing the liquid to pass around it and answering the purpose of the usual valve on a suction pump.
23 is an extension tube itting into the tube 16 and may be provided with a packing around the lower end thereof to prevent the liquid passing between it and the tube 16. In

case, however, the liquid should get above the packing it will drip from the pump through the perforations 15, hereinbet'ore mentioned. This extension tube 23 is provided with the usual spout which, as heretofore mentioned, is of such form and length as to reach forward to the stopper 6 and engage the bar 9 in the stopper when not in use. When used it is drawn upward and turned over the top of the vessel into which the liquid is to be pumped. The rod 19 is then worked, pumping the liquid from the can, as hereinbefore described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In an oil can, the combination with the can of the bail 11, the rod 10, the stopper 6, adapted to be screwed into an orifice in the top of the can and provided with the bent bar 9 across its center, adapted to receive the nozzle 24 of a pump, of a pump consisting of tube 16 having a suction valve on the lower end thereof, and having an extension, 16', below'the valve, the extension tube 23 tightly fitting the tube 16, the plunger 19 fittinginto thelongitudinal groove 18 upon the inside of the tube 16, said plunger having upon the lower end thereof a valve the pump held in the can by a screw thimble 14 having its lower projecting flange perforated, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A pump for an oil can consisting of the pipe 16 having a longitudinal rib upon its circumference forming a groove, 18, the entire length of the tube and adapted to receive a plunger 19 having upon the lower end thereof a valve working in said tube 16, a valve 17 upon the lower end of the tube 16, the extension tube 23 passing tightly within the tube 16 and provided with a spout or nozzle 24, the valve on the lower end of the plunger consisting of a circular piece 2O having the rod 19 secured to its circumference and havingacross the top thereof the leather packing 21 secured in its center to the piece 20, its outer edge being free and forming the packing for the plunger, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In an oil can, a stopper therefor consisting of a screw threaded stopper having its center bent downward forming the sides for the threads and having across its center a bar bent at its center in the form desired to receive a nozzle of a pump, and an orifice 7 through the bottom of the stopper provided with an outlet for the drip of the pump, and a chain 8 secured to the under side of the stopper within the can to prevent its being lost when detached, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. In an oil can, the combination with the body of the can having a circumferential groove updn the lower part thereof, a circular bottom having a Harige on its edge adapted to snap into the groove of the bottorn,` a screw threaded stopper 6 having a depression in its center across which is a bent bar 9 adapted to engage the end of the nozzle of the pump when not in use, a hole 7 in the center of the stopper forming an outlet for the drip from the pump, a chain attached to the lower part of the stopper having a cross bar longer than the stopper orifice, the rod 10 passing through the top of the body of the can and having eyes upon each end thereof adapted to be engaged by the handle 11, a tube 16 extending into the can from the top to its bottom, having upon the lower end thereof a suction valve l7,its upper end being screw threaded and adapted to engage a screw threaded orifice in the top of the can, and having perforations 15 below the screw thread,a longitudinal rib 18 on the outside` of the tube forming agroove upon the inside thereof, a plunger 19 working in this groove and having a valve upon the lower end thereof, an extension tube 23 fitting tightly into the tube 16 and adapted to be moved up' and down therein, and capable of being turned, and having the nozzle 24, substantially as and for the purpose setforth.
