LEMUEL WV. HAYES, OF NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- I-IALF TO CHARLES S. PAISLER, OF SAME PLACE.
MEANS FOR S USPENDING HOSE IN TOWERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 530,415, dated December 4, 1894. Application filed September 11, 1894.- Serial No. 522|7 (Nil 1110 61) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEMUEL W. HAYES, of New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspending Hose in Towersg and I do hereby de y clare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in machines for hoisting and suspending hose in towers, and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims. I
The object of my invention is to provide a tower with suspending rods and hooks, and above this a carriage and hoisting device adapted to move to any part of the tower and to hoist the hose up to be caught by the hook, the said carriage being adapted to be held firmlyl at prearranged points throughout its trave Referring to the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view of a tower with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevation of the carriage and hoisting device. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 4. is an 'end view of the same.
In the drawings, M represents the wall of the tower and K a series of rods which extend across the same carrying hooks N.
the lever a laterally or outwardly swingingmovement with relation to said rail, though normally held snugly thereto by gravity as will be readily understood.
One of the rails A is prd'vided with a series of pins or projections E, and the lever D is provided with an opening adapted to receive one of said projections.
A rod H depends from the truck frame and has an eye a at its lower end to receive the hook of sheave C on which is arranged the elevating rope F.
A suitable platform or other support, not shown, is arranged in the upper portion of the tower for the workmen to stand upon, and in operation the hose sections are elevated by the rope, and the truck moved to proper position, either by drawing the suspended hose in the desired direction, or it may be manipulated directly by the operator in the tower, until the sameis opposite the hook N upon which the hose is to be suspended, when the truck will be locked in said position by lever D engaging one of projections E.
If so desired, the lever D may be made sufficiently long to depend within reach of those standing on thefioor of the tower and in such case it will serve as a convenient device for moving the truck on the track to the position desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is
1. The combination with a hose elevator of a track provided with a series of projections, a carriage for supporting said elevator, and a lever carried by the carriage adapted to engage the said pins or projections, substantially as shown.
2. The combination of the track, the truck movable thereon, the elevating device carried by the truck, and the lever D pivotally connected to the truck and adapted to engage at determined points the track and thus hold fixedly the truck thereon, substantially as shown and described.
Intestimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEMUEL W. HAYES.
