CLEANING ATTACHMENT FOR PULP-=SCREENS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 529,193, dated November 13,1894. Application filed May 7, I894. Serial No. 510,411. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, EDWIN A. RICHARDSON, a,

[ others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in mechanism for keeping the paper pulp screens clear of lumps, wads, strings, slime and other foreign substances, which would otherwise form on the :0 under side of the screen plates, which is accomplished by insertinga series of perforated pipes into the screen frame, which are so disposed as to allow water under pressure to be forced against the under surface of the screen, thus keeping the same clean,'which insures a better quality of paper as a result.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A represents the frame work supporting the shaking screen B, such as is commonly employedin paper manufacturing, having cam wheels keyed to shafts which are designed to produce the shaking motion.

D is a screen havinga mesh of suitable size to properly strain the pulp, and beneath the said screen are arranged the cross beams E, E, upon the upper edges of which the screen rests.

Lengthwise of the screen, and passing through perforations in the cross beams, it is my purpose to pass a series of pipes, F having perforations ff, in the upper surface of the pipes nearest the screen, so that the force of water coming under pressure through the said pipes, will be directed toward the under surface of the screen, thus keeping the same clear ofall lumps, slime, &c., which would otherwise be carried into the paper pulp, thus making poor paper.

The perforations in the beams E through which the spray pipes pass are sufficiently elongated to permit of the necessary vertical movement of the screen, as shown in Fig. 2.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination with the frame-work and the shaking screen, of the cross-beams E, E, on the upper edges of which said screen rests, said beams having perforations, and the perforated pipes passed through said perforations in the beams and arranged lengthwise of and parallel to the screen and in close proximity thereto upon the under side thereof with their perforations nearest the screen, substantially as and for the purpose described.
