COIN-REGISTERING PURSE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 528,910, dated November 6, 1894.
Application filed July 14,1894. Serial No. 517,545. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, MAX H. METAL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Registering- Purses, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved purse, which is so constructed that by the inserting of the first coin, the purse is automatically locked and remains locked untila predetermined amount of coins have been inserted.
The invention consists in the combination with a bag or purse, of a metal frame in the same, one section of the frame carrying a registering-wheel having a series of numbers on one face which show through a slot in said section of the frame, said wheel having a toothed rim and a notched flange which engages a notched stud on the other section 0 the purse-frame.
The invention further consists in the construction and combination of parts and de-' tails, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved registering purse showing the jaw-sections open. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, a portion of the bag being broken away. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same, the jaws being open, and Fig. 4. is an inside view of the inner side of the registering wheel and of that corner of the bag or purse in which the same is arranged.

The purse or bag A is provided with a metal frame B, composed of two jaw sections 1) Z). The section b is providedwith a metallic side-plate b having an observation slot 0, and to the inner face of said plate 6 a wheel D is pivoted, and is provided on that face resting against the inner face of the metal plate B with the numerals 0 to 90 at intervals of ten, arranged equidistant from each other and in acircle concentric with the journal of the wheel so that as the wheel is turned these numbers successively show through the slot 0. The wheel D is also provided with as many slightly concave teeth a as there are numbers, against which teeth bears a check-spring F that is attached to the said metal plate 19 The wheel D is provided on the surface opposite the one carrying the numbers with a projecting flange G having a notch H, said flange being concentric with the journal of, and having a greater radius than, the registeringwheel.
The jaw-section b of the frame is provided at its inner surface with an inwardly-projecting stud L provided in its under side with a-recess M.
The top flange of the jaw-section b is provided with a longitudinal slot 0 of such size as to adapt it to receive coin.
When the purse is closed and the zero of the registering-wheel D shows through the slot G, the stud L can pass through the notch H in the flange G and the two jaw-sections b b can be brought together, that is, the purse is closed and the coins can be inserted. If now a coin of the proper denomination is inserted through the coin-slot O, the rim of the coin rests on one of the teeth of the wheel D, said teeth being shaped to fit snugly on the rim of the coin. If the coin is pressed downward through the slot 0, it turns the registering-wheel D the distance of one tooth, and
