EDUARD VON KILANYI, OF BUDA-PESTH, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
APPARATUS FOR DISPLAYING TABLEAUX VIVANT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 528,372, dated October 30, 1894- Applioation filed March 29, 1894- Serial No. 505,625. (No model.) Patentedin Germany Feb y 1 y 1 To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDUARD VON KILANYI, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Buda-Pesth, Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Displaying Tableaux Vivant or Living Pictures, (patented in Germany February 25, 1892, No.1,909;) and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to mechanism for displaying living pictures.
The object of the device is to present to view rapidly and accurately pictures consisting of one or more persons properly posed with appropriate scenic effects.
It is well known that in theatrical performances an audience tires of long delay or intermissions and it is therefore essential that in displays of the nature stated the apparatus must be quickly placed in position and quickly operated and removed.
To this end the apparatus consists of the mechanism shown in the accompanying drawings, in which 4 Figure 1 is a top plan View, showing the tracks and lower hinged platform; Fig. 2, a plan view of the upper platform or table; Fig. 3, a detail plan view of one of the sections showing the independent rollers therefor, and Fig.4 a vertical section of the apparatus and the illuminated frame.
Referring more particularly to the drawings (Fig. 4) the lower table A is provided with grooved rollers f which move upon the railing F so placed that the platform may be quickly and accurately brought in front of the frame I illuminated within at sides and top by electric lights 1'. This lower table is hinged as indicated at a, so it may be folded, thus taking up less space in storage and transportation, and at the same time permitting it to be more easily and quickly placed in position on the track.
Upon the lower table is placed a second table T, having a central block 0, and pivot c journaled in the seat in the lower table. Upon table T is placed a series of removable sections B, each provided with independent rollers e. I
The scenic back grounds E are placed in position on the different sections -the sections being bolted together as indicated at b, and blocks D are inserted at the corners, and let into thesections B, the pieces G, occupying the space between the sections. The sections may however be joined to each other in any other suitable mechanical way.
In operation. the tables are brought into position before the frame I (of any desired size) the persons forming the first two or three tableaux to be exhibited are posed in their respective sections andthe background properly arranged. The curtain is then drawn and while picture No. 1 is being exhibited, sections 3 and 4 are being prepared, section 2 being ready for exhibition. As soon as picture No. 1 disappears from View, that section becomes No. 4 and its background and other scenic accessories are removed and new ones substituted. This is being done while picture No. 2 is being exhibited and thus the entire set can be quickly shown.
I have here shown but four sections for convenience, but it is obvious that I may place upon the platform as many sections as may be desired. It is found in practice that four, six, or eight sections are all that is desirable. It is also obvious that difierent means may be used for moving the tables and the different means may be used for securing the sections and backgrounds in place without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an apparatus of the nature described, the combinatioii with a track and supporting table, of a sectional scene table provided with removable backgrounds, as and for the purpose set forth. v
In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
