W. M. COOK. PORTABLE FBNGE.
Patented 007. 23, 1894.

' ings, and to the letters of reference marked UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFiCE.
WILLIAM M. OOOK, OF JULIAN, ALABAMA.
PORTABLE FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 527,773, dated October 23, 1894.
Application filed March 2, 1394- Serial No. 502;O65- (NO 1110581) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. 000K, a citizen of the United States, residing at Julian, in the county of Orenshaw and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Fences; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawthereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make movable fences so that each panel will fold up convenient for transportation and yet may be held perpendicular when in use on level or hilly land by brace rods as hereinafter described. I
Figure 1 is a side-elevation, showing the hook and eye detachable connection of the panels which I preferably use, and Fig. 2 is an elevation or inside view which shows the brace-rods that hold the panel erect. Fig. 3 is a vertical section, showing the brace-rod on each side of the end-posts. Fig. 4 is a panel folded for transportation.
In the drawing,'A A represent two panels connected detachably by hooks and eyes or any other equivalent connection allowing an easy separation of the panels.
P, P, represent the end-posts of a panel and P the middle post while B are horizontal rails, the posts and rails being pivoted to each other so that they will fold up in "a compact form for handling and being carried on a cart or wagon.
When arranged for use, the posts are raised to a perpendicular and the rails to a horizon- ,40
tal position where they are securely held by the brace-rods B which connect the end-posts P P with the middle one P by a hook and eye joint on each post.
O is a transverse bedpiece, under each end of the panel, provided witha groove 0 in which fits the lower rail of the panel. Each side of the bedpiece O is connected by an inclined brace-rod D with the upper part of the side of OHdsPOSi]. By this construction, each panel is firmly held so as to resist effectually any wind or storm or pressure of the stock, while the whole fence can be rapidly moved and set up in a different location.
What I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
A folding fence panel having the end-posts P P and middle post P adapted simply to rest with the lower end on the ground, the rails pivoted to each of said posts, the latchbraces B B pivoted to the end posts and latching on the middle post, the terminal bedpieces grooved to receive the lowest rail and the counterbraces D D hinged to the bedpiece and latching on the sides of the endposts, all combined and arranged as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM M. COOK.
