HANGER APPARATUS FOR USE IN LAYlNG FIREPROOF FLOORING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,383, dated October 9, 1894.

.To all whom, it may concern.- Be it known that I, CONRAD CARLSON, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hanger Apparatus for Use in Laying Fireproof Flooring, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to temporary hanger apparatus for holding tire proof flooring while to provide simpler and cheaper apparatus` and for more ready application, adjustment, and removal of the same all as hereinafter fully described reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1, is an end elevation of the platform to be suspended from the floor beams, as adapted for laying arched doors. Fig. 2, is an end view of floor beams, also of the platform adapted for flat doors, with the apparatus for suspending the same partly connected to a beam and illustrating the manner of applying, removing and adjusting the platform. Fig. 3,is a plan view of the apparatus as in Fig. l. Fig. 4, is a side elevation of one of the hanger devices on an enlarged scale and with apart detached, and Fig. 5, is a detail in section on line m-, Fig. 4..
For the hangers by which to suspend the platform from the flanges of the beams a., I provide a pair of hooks b, pivoted in a block c, in which is a hook locking and unlocking key, consisting of the screw d, having the cones e and f. The cone e, wedges between the points g of the hooks when the key is screwed upward and locks the hooks fast on the liange of the beam as at the middle beam in Fig. 2, and the cone f, acting on the points h, of the hooks when the key is screwed downward releases Ithe hooks from the flanges.
The lower end t', of the key is adapted for the* application of a socket wrench from below to operate it. The hanger blocks are preferably made in two parts as best shown by the cross section of one of the said parts in Fig. 5, to facilitate the application of the double cone screw, the said parts being clamped together at the faces j, by the bolts la, which also serve .0, and having cross bars p, placed at suitable distances apart for laying the tiles or bricks on them. The yokes are secured adj ustably to the bars n, by the bolts q, and the slots s, of the yokes for extensible construction adapting the platform for beams of dierent `distances apart.
For flat floors the cross bars p, will be placed directly on the bars n, but for arched floors arched bars as t, may be temporarily attached to the sides of the same bars fn, to support the cross bars, the cross bars being in such case removed from bars ot.
Whether for fiat or arched doors, I provide the cross bars p, to both sides of the bars n, and make the platform reversible so that it can be changed from between two beams to the same position between the next two either way by detaching the hangers, from one beam, and swinging the platform on the pole remaining connected to the other beam around to the next beam on the other side and connecting the detached hangers thereto as indicated in Fig. 2. Thus by beginning at one side of the building the apparatus may be shifted along from space to space across to the otherv side by only detaching the hangers of one end of the platform at a time.

3. The combination with hangers on the floor beams adjustable lengthwise along Lthe beams, of platform supporting poles on the hangers, and a platform supported on said poles and rotatable from one space to another on oneloi;` the supporting poles substantially the screw between the cones and also clamped on the hooks substantially as described.
6. The combination of the hanger block having the pole receiving eye and pole bearing, the'hooks and adjusting screw, said eye pole bearing, and screw adapted to clamp the poleand secure the hooks inv position substantially as described.
