, A. GONSER. COMBINED STEP AND EXTENSION LADDER AND IRONING BOARD SUPPORT No. 526,570. Patented Sept. 25, 1894.
. WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED GONSER, or CANTON, OHIO.
COMBINED STEP AND EXTENSION LADDER AND lRONlNG-BOARD SUPPORT- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,570, dated September 25, 1894.
Application filed March 20, 1894. Serial No. 504,382. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED GONSER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Canton, county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Step and Extension Ladder and Ironing-Board Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to a new article of manufacture and consists in providing a combined ironing board support, step ladder and extension ladder.
With this object in view my invention consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1, represents my invention when folded for transportation or packing, when out of use. Fig. 2, is a perspective, showing the invention as used to support an ironing board. Fig. 3, is a similar view showing the invention as a step ladder. Fig. 4., is a similar view showing the invention as an extension ladder. Fig. 5, is a perspective of the connected end portions of the step and extension ladders, showing the manner of looking the parts in extended position.
A represents the step ladder, and B aframe pivotally secured thereto at a point about central, that serves to form a support for the ironing board 0, and foot and lock for the extension ladder D.
The step ladder portion of my invention is constructed in the usual form, having side portions a, and foot boards b. At the bottom or lower end of the sides ais provided a round 0, which serves as a support for the ironing board 0, as shown in Fig. 2. At the upper end portion of the sides a is provided a recess d, to receive the round e, at the upper end of the frame B, when the parts are folded together. This round e serves as a support for the ironing board. At the lower end of each side of the frame B is provided a foot piece f, having a projected toe f, to engage and rest on the stud pins 9, on the free end portion of the extension D, as shown in Fig. 2, by which arrangement the height of the ironing board may be adjusted. This foot piece also serves as a foot for the extension ladder. The extension frame D is pivotally secured to the upper end portion of the step ladder frame, and forms the supporting leg for the step ladder. It is constructed with an extension h, on the end of which is provided a hook 7.4, to grasp the edge of the sides a, of the step ladder, as shown in Fig. 5. A side portion of the extension 72. is cut away to allow the frame B to fold in upon the extension to lock the ladder. in extended position as shown in Fig. 4. By the lower end of the frame B, resting on the ground, the upper end will rest on the extension h, and serve as a lock to hold the parts in extended position.
When required, the frame as shown in Fig. 2, may serve as a wash bench, by simply removing the ironing board and turning the frame over with the frame D on the top. The wash tubs may rest on the rounds m.
Having thus explained the nature and object of my invention, what I claim is- 1. The ladder A, having recesses d at its upper end portion, a frame B, pivotally secured thereto, having a round 6 to fold into the recesses d and foot pieces f, each having a toe f to engage the stud pins g, and the extension frame D, combined to form a step ladder and support for an ironing board, substantially as described.
2. The combination with the step ladderA of the extension D, pivoted thereto, having extended arm portions h, having hooks k, thereon, to grasp the sides of the step ladder, a frame as B pivoted to the sides of the step ladder to rest over the arms h, to lock the frame D in extended position as shown and described and for the purpose set forth.
3 In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of March, A. D. 1894.
ALFRED GONSER.
