1?. EOKE LASTING PING S.
No. 526,345. Patented Sept. 18, 1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT} OFFICE.
FRIEDRICH EGKERT, OF STUTTGART, GERMANY.
LASTING-PINCHERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,345, dated September 18, 1894. Application filed May 26,1893. $erial No. 475,582. CNo model.) nifi 111 England April 1393 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH EOKERT, of Stuttgart, in the Kingdom of WViirtemberg and German Empire, have invented new and useful Lasting-Pinchers, by which the upper is drawn over the last in the manufacture of boots or shoes, (for which I have been granted a patent in England, dated April 12, 1893, No. 7,468,) of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings, Figure'l, is a sectional view of a last and upper the pinchers being shown in side elevation. Fig. 2, is a detail View. Fig. 3, is a plan view.
This invention relates to lasting pinchers by which the upper is drawn over the last, in the manufacture of boots and shoes.
Lasting pinchers constructed according to my invention when being manipulated do not offer two handles to be grasped as in the pinchers hitherto in use, but may be operated by direct pressure upon the single handle with which they are provided, and are also capable of being easily adjusted for all widths of lasts, by means of an adjustable cramp.
Upon reference to the annexed drawings, it will be seen that the pinchers according to this invention are provided with a single handle a, arranged as a lever, one extremity of which forming the lower jaw b of the pinchers, the cramp it being adj ustably connected I to both upper and lower jaws.
The pin 0 serves as the fulcrum pin of the pinchers and also as a guide to the cramp h, a second guide pin f being provided in the jaw 01. To these pins is riveted the plate '5, between which plate and the jaw d the cramp his held, the pins 0 and f passing through the slot K of the cramp.
In order to adjust the cramp h in drawing the upper leather over larger or smaller lasts, the upper side of the slot K is provided with serrations g, into which the pins 0 and f are pressed by pressure on the lever a.
In operation the upper leather is caught by the pinchers and after the cramp has been pressed against the last (see Fig. 1) it is drawn up over the last by pressure being exerted upon the lever-arm. By giving the nose of the pinchers the shape illustrated in Fig. 1, the leather is caused to'lie fiat upon the last when being drawn up, whereby the driving of the sprigs is made easier.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent of the United States, is-
In combination with the block d forming one jaw of the pinchers, the handle a pivoted thereto and carrying the lower jaw b and a cramp h adj ustably supported on the block d, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
FRIEDRICH ECKERT.
