UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMMA MARIA WELCKE E,
DRESS-SHlELDl SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,276, dated September 18, 1894.. Application filed October 30, 1893. fierial No. 489,453. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMA MARIA WELCKER, of Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dress-Shields, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention refers to improvements in dress shields. Those now in use have to be sewed on along the whole periphery or half round edge. The perspiration is thus through this edge of the article-brought in direct contact with the inside of the dress material and penetrates thence the whole region of the arm pit through the many stitch holes whereby it is sewed on. The replacing of the ordinary dress shields, viz: by the undoing of the sewing of the old and the sewing on of the new, is moreover a tedious and also a very unpleasant labor. My invention obviates these defects.
, In the accompanying drawings I have shown a suitable formof dress shield, Figure 1 being a plan, Fig. 2 a plan View from above, and Fig. 3 a vertical central-section.
a is a spring metal hoop which extends along the saddle of the shield. Its two ends I) and c, which may be somewhat reduced in size, project beyond the shield and take into thread loops at and con the inner sleeve seam as shown. The material of the dress shield is lapped round this loop a and permanently fixed thereto by a suitable solution.
The edge of the dress-shield is stiffened by an insewed cord f ofpiassava or other suitable material and bound with tape 9 or the like for preventing the perspiration from passing to the material of the dress.
The article is sold in the form shown and in use the free ends I) c of the hoop a are inserted in the thread loops d 6 so that it can be removed and replaced by a new one in a few moments and without any sewing. The hoop follows the contour of the sleeve seam without making itself felt in the arm pit, but rather preventing by its curved form the perspiration producing contact between sleeve seam and arm pit.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A dress shield having a spring metal hoop which extends along the saddle of the shield V,
and is attached to the shield fabric, the ends of said hoop projecting beyond the shield and being adapted to detachably enter holding loops on the dress; substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
EMMA MARIA WELOKER.
