Description

(No Model.) J. KREITZ.
GOAL 0R COKE PORK. No. 526,109. Patented sept. 18, 1894.
Invem;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN KREITZ, OF AKRON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OIF TWO-THIRDS TO JESSE A.
. BUEL, OF SAME PLACE.
vCOAL OR COKE FORK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,109, dated September 18, 1894. Application filed July 5, i893. Serial No. 4795670. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: y
Be it known that I, JOHN KREITZ, of Akron, in Summit county and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coal or Coke Forks, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification and drawings.
The object of my invention is to improve the construction and reduce the cost of manufacturing and repairs, as a broken tine can be readily driven out of its socket and a new tine inserted.
With this object in view I have constructed my fork head of malleable or cast iron or steel in one piece and provided apertures or sockets for holding the tines with a projecting lug on one side and a groove on the opposite side located centrally in the aperture orrsocket,
and as the fork tooth or tine is driven in its place it is thereby securely and rmly held therein by means of said lug and groove, the tine conforming to the lug and groove as it is forced through the aperture to its place, and at any time when a tine is broken byaccident the piece can be readily driven out and replaced by a new one. I
The handle socket which is of the usual form, being cast in one piece, is bolted to the head.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 2, a sectional end view of same. Fig. 3 is a sectional side view. Fig. 4 is a perspective view in section of the head showing the aperture or tine socket with its lug ou the upper side and groove immediately below lo- 3 5 cated centrally within said socket. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of a tine or tooth which has been forced out of its place preparatory to driving in a new one to repair the fork.
Like letters refer to like parts in the draw- 4o ings, in which- A is the fork head socket. head. C is a tine. D is the aperture or socket for the tine. E is the groove and F the lug opposite the groove in the tine aperture 45 of the head B. G and Hrepresent the corresponding depression and projection on the tine C. r/
It will thus be seen that by this simple construction the entire fork can be manufactured 5o with little expense, and is readily repaired without the use of tools or the delay of taking the head apart, and as the tine is placed it is rmly and securely held from displacement by means of the lug and groove within the aperture.
Having thus fully shown and described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is- In a coal and coke fork the head B cast in one piece and having the tine socket provided with the lug F and groove E within the head substantially as shown and described.
JOHN KREITZ.
